Japy Freres - A 19th Century antique French bronze mantel clock having a large figural winged cherub putti resting on clock playing with dove. The circular barrel clock having a white enamel face with Roman numeral chapter ring and faceted hands. Raised on a sienna marble stepped plinth on reeded feet. The movement striking on a bell with makers stamp and numerals. No key. Measures: 37cm x 54cm x 24cm.

Regency Valentine, addressed to a Miss L. Shafe of White Row, Spitalfields (London), pre-stamp handstruck unpaid twopenny post, 14 February 1818. Folding paper card bearing manufacturer's watermark ('Dobbs 1815'), originally folded for the purpose of postage with the red sealing wax still present. Dobbs Patent with embossed floral border and corner designs depicting cupid in a variety of poses (firing arrows into love hearts, playing a harp) with French phrases in scrolls. Central design with manuscript romantic verse within a gilt love heart, vibrant watercolour floral border surmounted by two gilt doves and a heart pierced with crossed arrows.'An affectionate pledge of Unfeigned Attachment; From him, who upon the return of another Valentine's Day, looks forward with pleasure, to the time when his hopes may be realised; & at the altar of Hymen he shall receive the hand, accompanied with the heart of her for whom he feels - not a wild and romantic love, which abates after a short acquaintance:- but an affection which time increases rather than diminishes'. Condition very good, well-preserved with bold colours and script, several very minor archival tape repairs to short tears at extremities and on the postal address

A collection of five 19th century children's games and books comprising: a set of 17 cut-out hand-coloured lithographed medieval figures with wooden stands (one stand detached, one missing), c.1840s, heightened with gum arabic, each approx. 9-13 cm tall, several in groups and on horseback or with dogs etc., together with some scenery pieces and one backdrop depicting a castle on a wooded hill (backdrop sky lightly spotted), generally dust-soiled, several with creases, one head detached but present, two heads lacking, a few previously repaired on verso, each piece with 'No. 24' in contemporary ink manuscript on verso, contained together in later cardboard box; Father Tuck's Nursery Rhyme Panorama with Movable Pictures, 4 scenes hinged together concertina-style (2 hinges strengthened), each with 14 numbered slots, the rear when folded incorporating an envelope to contain the 14 figures (envelope torn with repairs), 1 figure lacking, 1 with replacement head, some small losses and tears, 2 with adhesive tape repairs (mainly to versos), a few creases, front cover with small dampstain at head, dust-soiled with some edge wear, 4to; a boxed puzzle of 20 wooden cubes, with colour lithographed onlays (worn), the cubes making up six scenes of children playing with animals, with six guide sheets (one mounted to box lid), creased with some wear, contained in original wooden box, lacking hinges and fastener, lid somewhat bowed, worn, 26.5 x 20.5 x 6 cm (10.5 x 8 x 2.5 ins); Happy Time ABC, a set of 24 wooden tiles with colour lithographed onlays, depicting the letters of the alphabet on one side (two with 2 letters) and a corresponding animal picture on the other, some edges rubbed, contained in original wooden box (one mitre loose), with pictorial sliding lid, the reverse of the box with another pictorial sliding lid (some woodworm damage and lacking rebated edge), and containing a wooden jigsaw puzzle, each piece with 2 colour lithographed onlays, depicting a different children's play scene on each side (one scene reproduced on pictorial lid), internal divider and both lids loosely fitting; and a colour lithographed book 'Jack and the Bean Stalk', by Nelson & Sons, slim 8vo (Qty: 5)
