An 18th century French Imperceptable ivory fan, the printed paper and over painted leaf depicting a central classical lady holding a torch, flanked by two panels of ladies playing a lyre, each with a winged cherub whispering in their ear, heightened in gilt, with pierced slender sticks and guards, 17cm. long.
Stuart Devlin silver gilt cased music box with textured hinged cover, frieze of male and female figures in various poses in relief, rosewood frame with Swiss Santa Croix Reuge movement playing a tune, London 1976 Stuart Devlin, who is the foremost silversmith of his time, was born in Australia in 1931 and came to London to study at the Royal College of Art in 1958. He moved to London to work and live in 1965. He has specialised in developing textures of which is clearly illustrated in this work. He was granted a Royal Warrant in 1982 and was Prime Warden of the Goldsmith's Company in 1996-7. PROVENANCE Purchased direct from Stuart Devlin by the vendor h: 2 x w: 7.50 x d: 4 in.

Deadman, a member of the Mechanical Transport Company, British South Africa Police, in the Great War British War and Victory Medals (MT-95 Dvr., B.S.A.P), together with the recipient’s original illuminated ‘disabled’ and ‘honourably discharged’ certificate, dated ‘16.2.19’, very fine and rare (2) £100-120 Leslie George Deadman ‘put in considerable service with the B.S.A.P. Mechanical Transport, operating in Northern Rhodesia and Nyasaland .. and will be particularly remembered for his services to the game of bowls, playing for Rhodesia some years ago’ (his obituary notice, The Outpost, October 1960, refers).
An early 19th century mahogany cased musical game By Ann Young the crossbanded case embellished with chequer and chevron bandings enclosing a two-part playing board overlaid with paper printed with staves, keyboards, key signatures etc., pierced with numerous diagonally set holes, the base with central lidded partition containing space for dice shakers and printed patent label with Royal cypher, the sides with two small drawers 44cm wide, 10.2cm high, 27.3cm deep Note: Ann Young, of St James Square, Edinburgh, was awarded the patent for this games box in 1801. It was the first British patent awarded to an educational game designed for 'amusement and instruction.' It contained six games which were designed, not only to be 'amusing and interesting' but also the teach 'the fundamental principles of the science of music'. There is a similar example in the National Museum of Ireland. A 19th Century Carved Oak Panel. Carved in deep relief and depicting the Queen Elizabeth I on horseback, wearing detailed attire with large ruffs. Two courtiers stand either side, one playing the trumpet and the other clutching a sword; the castle walls in shallow relief in the background alongside a leafy tree. 30 ins x 22 ins x 3½ ins (77 cms x 56 cms x 9 cms).

A mid-19th Century alphabetical and numerical sampler, worked by 'Elizabeth Elphick, Aged 10 years, 1856', the letters and numerals above verse, flanked by floral wreaths, butterflies, flowering shrubs in baskets and a dog leaping over a fence, above vignettes of a ship in full sail and a cottage with children playing, centred with a basket of roses, all contained within a floral border, worked with coloured silks in fine cross stitch and button-hole stitch to the letters, on a cream canvas ground, approx 37cm x 33cm, within a maple frame.
