An Ălteste Volkstedter Porzellanfabrik monkey band including two singers, Hurdy Gurdy player, Bagpipe player and Whistle player CONDITION REPORTS The figure with the sheet music in the dark purple dress has been restored and touched up all over as well as various breakages left untouched. The figure in the yellow dress has had restoration to the lower arm with areas of re-painting on the sleeve and gown around. The left hand of the monkey playing the bagpipes appears to have been off and re-glued. The end has been off the flute-like instrument of the monkey in the green jacket and a replacement attached. All have general wear and tear conducive with age and use to include surface scratches etc - see images for further details. The yellow gowned figure is approximately 12 cm in height and the dark purple seated figure approx 9.5 cm in height - the others are inbetween

The shirt was worn by Toyah whilst shooting the film Midnight Breaks in 1987. The blouse was worn by Toyah on stage whilst playing with her band The Strange Girls in 1991 and for a photo shoot with her husband.

*An 1897 Gentleman's Valise. Retailed by Mappin & Webb, Oxford Street, London, a brown leather Gladstone-style centre-opening case given as a 'first' cycling prize in 1897. The case opens to reveal a spring-loaded removable centre section holding various 1897 London-assayed, silver-topped bottles and accoutrements, the centre bottle inscribed: 'Cycling International promoted by Earl de la Warr at Bexhill-on-Sea, 2nd August 1897, 1st One Mile Amateur Handicap for Members of Bexhill Cycling Club'. Further features include a leather lining, cloth retaining straps, carrying handle, brass locks, corner protectors, and brass cone feet. The accessories include writing pad, pens, inkwell, page-turner, tooth-brush, eau-de-Cologne bottles, scissors, nail polisher, brushes, carriage clock and playing cards. An imposing and stout bag in good condition, with intact stitching, several accessories missing or replaced, but essentially sound Historic note: The 8th Earl was raised to the Earldom in 1896, and as a keen cyclist, presented this valise to the Bexhill Cycling Club when aged 26. Eventually Mayor of Bexhill-on-Sea, he saw active service in the Boer War, and died while on active service as a lieutenant in the Royal Navy Volunteer Reserve, in December 1915, aged 46. (1)

BADER DOUGLAS: (1910-1982) British World War II Ace (22.5 victories), recognized for his important role during the Battle of Britain. A printed 4to programme for the Bearsden & Milngavie Highland Games at Kimardinny Playing Fields, Bearsden, Glasgow, on 9th June 1979, opened by Bader in his capacity as Chieftan of the Games, and signed by him in blue ink to an inside page beneath his portrait and printed text. Together with a commemorative cover issued in honour of Bader's Bus Company individually signed by seven Battle of Britain pilots and other individuals associated with the pilot comprising Denis Crowley Milling, Hugh Dundas, Johnnie Johnson, Paddy Barthropp, Lord Goodman, Marmaduke Hussey and Joan Bader. All have signed with their names alone in bold blue and black inks. Post marked 11th September 1979. VG, 2 Douglas Bader made his last flight, in his Beech 95 Travelair, on 4th June 1979, less than a week before signing the present programme.
