A late 19th century Indian games box, the edges inlaid with certosina bands, the interior lined with red scrim, the tray containing about two hundred and fifty mother of pearl counters including about sixty-five of fish shape, the compartments below with more modern playing cards and coloured bone alphabet letters, the box 30cm wide
Joseph Catherwood, London A gilt bronze mantel clock, now with an associated three train musical movement, striking the hours on eight bells, the musical movement playing cotillan/ minuet/gavotte and song tunes, 43cm. Joseph Catherwood (circa 1775-1825) is little recorded but is known to have been a close associate of Aynsworth Thwaites, the leading London supplier of spring clocks at the end of the 18th century. Catherwood is recorded as working in Bunhill Row most of his life. Items bearing his name vary from watches, clocks for the Spanish and Eastern markets, as well as one of the finest longcase regulators of the late 18th century, on view in the British Museum.

A Louis XV style ormolu striking mantel clock, the finial in the form of a seated cherub on a cloud playing a lyre, the case with scrolling foliage and four leaf-capped scroll supports on a shaped platform with pierced apron and bracket feet, fitted a circular white enamel dial signed Honegger and having an eight-day movement striking on a bell, the case stamped BD352 (Beurdeley), 43.25cm (17") high / [Provenance: Sotheby's, 12 June 1987, lot 596]
