Silver rectangular shaped playing card box with hinged cover having card cut leading edge and containing two sets of small playing cards. Birmingham hallmarks. 0.4cm wide approx. 2.6 troy ozs approx. (B.P. 21% + VAT) In good condition, bearing various initials to the top. Odd dents and bumps, particularly around the edges but no significant damage apart from that.
ORIENTAL & CONTINENTAL - a neat globular Famille Verte Oriental teapot and domed lid, a pair of glazed late vintage Oriental pots with six character marks to the base, a 19th century blue and gilt Oriental patterned cup and saucer and a pair of small Bayreuth miniature vases, each with two figures playing musical instruments and with silver bands to the neck (parcel of 4 items)
2nd-3rd century AD. A carved schist frieze panel with facing anguipede playing a stringed musical instrument flanked by dancing girls and rectangular columns; mounted on a custom-made stand. 11.8 kg total, 40cm wide including stand (15 3/4"). From the property of a London gentleman; formerly in a UK collection, acquired in the 1990s. Fine condition.
A Meissen porcelain group of the drunken Silenus, 19th century, supported by Bacchus and slumped on a donkey being fed grapes by a maiden relaxing on the ground, and a putto playing with its tail, underglaze blue crossed swords, incised 2724, H. 21cmCONDITION: There are losses to the garland of grapes on two of the figures heads, the donkeys right ear, the foliage the donkey is eating, the fingers on the putto's right hand, some of the leaves in the basket and to some drapery next to the left arm of the maiden. There is restoration to the end of the donkeys tail and to the maidens right foot, otherwise in reasonable condition.
A pair of Meissen bucolic figural candelabra, 19th century, the gentleman figure playing bagpipes and the lady a pipe, standing in front of a tree, underglaze blue crossed swords marks, removable three branch candle arms, incised 'F155' and 'F156', H. 42cmCONDITION: There is restoration on some of the candle arms, there are typical small losses to the encrusted flowers of the candle arms and the leaves on the tree, on the male figure one of the nozzles and drip pans has become detached and has been restored around the whole of the drip pan, there is also restoration to the drip pan on the central nozzle above the tree trunk and to the dogs right ear and to the majority of the leaves on the tree, female figure - there are losses to the end of her pipe, restoration to two of the drip pans for the nozzles on the candle branches and to the drip pan on the central nozzle, below a tree there is also a gilt metal reinforcement, also most of the leaves on the tree have been restored, otherwise in a reasonable condition.
Roullet & Decamps. A 19th century French cat automaton, modelled as an anthropomorphic cat nobleman holding a mouse by its tail and a walking stick, mechanism working playing musical tune with the figure rotating and swivelling from side to side, base 9.5 x 9.5in., overall height 20in.CONDITION: Overall a little tired, fur of the cat looks good, ears out of alignment but that is thought to be intentional, costume now very dirty with discoloured lace work and faded silkwork, hands are painted carved wood with minor flaking, tail of mouse looks to be added, velvet covering to base possibly original but very worn, mechanism going, comes with original winding key.
Nine 19th century Chinese gouache on pith paper, depicting seated nobles and sages with attendants, 26.5 x 17cmCONDITION: - Woman with girl holding yellow basket, two horizontal splits and discolouration to the ground paper- Man with green robed boy at this feet with tear through the paper near the sitters head - Bearded man with boy in green at his feet, damp spotting to the paper, a division or split running up the left margin- Woman with attendant in green with minor spotting- Woman with attendant holding red tray with tear and loss to top left corner of paper- Bearded man with pipe - some spotting- Man playing instrument - some spotting, small tear top centre- Woman with red vase beyond - small tear top left and one to the left of the table- Man with attendant in brown - insect dirt, small loss bottom left corner.
A late 19th century German walnut cased upright Symphonion, with lyre shaped pediment, pilaster flanked glazed door enclosing the 21 inch disc playing mechanism, over a base housing nine additional discs, W.2ft 6in. D.1ft 4in. H.7ft 5in.CONDITION: Overall in very good condition, restored at some point with the case stained to an even treacle coloured tone, the mechanism cleaned and repaired as required, now in full working order, bears an original label to the right side for 5 Pfennig Coins, a few minor surface nicks and dents commensurate with age and use.
Circle of Frederick Walker A.R.A., O.W.S. (1840-1875)watercolour"Playing the Organ"18.5 x 23.75in.CONDITION: Good untouched condition, colours remain strong, looks to have been backed onto an additional piece of paper, apparently unsigned, housed in an ornate original gilt gesso scroll frame with attribution to artist and date 1870, a few small fox marks near the top right corner.
A late 19th century Swiss inlaid walnut and kingwood eight air musical box, the lid inlaid with a brass and hardstone central cartouche, sides with cast bronze handles, lid with attached play list, Quatuor Expression, listing the eight airs and playing upon a 17 inch cylinder with four combs, width 34in. depth 14in. height 10.5in.CONDITION: Case a little faded and would benefit from repolishing, lid is slightly domed and has a fine hairline crack running from the left side in towards the middle and scattered small dents and scratch marks commensurate with age, printed play list just about fits inside the lid, no key present, cylinder looks to be in good order, all teeth of the combs are present, does play, although all metal work is somewhat oxidised, particularly the combs and the plaque where the selection levers are placed, small ivorine escutcheon to the front is broken with a small piece missing, ebonised plinth heavily scuffed and scratched, but overall fair to good condition and ripe for restoration.
A late 19th century Nicole Freres of Geneva 24 air musical box, the faded rosewood case marquetry inlaid with a cherub riding a bear and another playing a lyre, inside of lid with play list numbered 2781/4277 and playing on a 13 inch cylinder, width 25in. depth 11in. height 8.25in.CONDITION: Case faded with minor nicks and dents but overall good, list of 24 airs a little discoloured with tears to the corners, movement going but heavily oxidised with verdigris spots and various discoloured patching to the cylinder itself, comb has fully intact teeth, no key for the original lock.
A pair of 19th century French ormolu mounted Sevres style porcelain urns, with jewelled decoration, painted with scenes of noblemen playing cards and a couple with attendant hairdresser, height 10.75in.CONDITION: Urn with card players with some rubbing to gilding, loss of some of the white jewels around the top, ormolu in good state, slightly rubbed at the extremities, left foot loose, other urn with less rubbing but still some to the gilding, jewelling intact, tiny stress crack in the main stem, light rubbing to the ormolu at the extremities.

Jim Gott (British 1897-1980): 'In the North Transept Ripon Cathedral', pencil signed, titled and dated '39, 77cm x 52cm Notes: Gott was a popular local character in Ripon who specialised in intricately detailed drawings. He spent most of his life working as a postman, except for a brief spell in the army. He had no formal art training and was self-taught his son Kelvin later studied at The Slade School of Fine Art in London. Gott also had other talents, playing the piano, writing poetry and penning the local pantomime as the dame. - Condition Report
