Giving an air of highly just importance to this wonderful playing medium!"
1970'S CUSTOM HI WATT 100 AMP AMPLIFIER HEAD. Model DR103 and serial number 5251. Comes with cover and in very good condition. "I went to see The Stranglers play at Bingley Hall Stafford and was so blown away by Jean Jacques Burnels playing and sound I resolved to copy his set up. Hiwatt 100 Head and 2x15 Vox Bass cab. Each Hiwatt head is handbuilt and wired, so each one is completely different from another. I tried a lot before I got one that sounded how I wanted! This is not the Original. That was stolen on the first New Order Tour of America. These are great British Amplifiers. I still use the new ones now. Very rugged and reliable."
JOY DIVISION PHOTOGRAPHS BAINS DOUCHE. Collection of 22 classic photographs of the band when playing at Les Bains Douches, Paris on the 18th December 1979. Some show the band relaxing before and after the gig. The majority measure 5" x 7" and were taken by Pierre Rene-Worms and Danny Dupic."As said before this was a great gig. Probably our best ever appearance in Paris ever, even as New Order. A great venue, designed by Philippe Starck complete with swimming pools (empty on this occasion.) Steve's ex-girlfriend Stephanie made an appearance and spent the whole gig shouting him from the door to backstage. He never batted an eyelid and just played on....fantastically. Ian was on great form at the gig and otherwise."
INTERVIEWS & ARTICLES. Collection of six documents to include a copy of Tony Wilson's homage to Ian Curtis "Mista Curtiz, he dead" from 1990, original letter and transcript of Peter Hook interview from Jon Savage dating to 1994, Paul Morley 15 page faxed article about Joy Division, Paul Morley 2 page Joy Division "PRE/FACE" from 1982, 7 pages of Jon Wozencrofts notes on Joy Division and 7 pages of sleeve notes for JD Unknown Pleasure."This lot are old acquaintances. Most got caught up in the New Order divorce unfortunately and I have not heard from most of them since. Jon Savage and Paul Morley in particular would do such arty/intellectual treaties on Joy Division and New Order that it was hard for me to recognize either us or our music. Interestingly Jon wishes me luck with KILLING JOKE - must have been when I was up for the bass playing job.... until Youth found out!"
JOY DIVISION 1979 PHOTOGRAPHS - BOWDON VALE YOUTH CLUB MARTIN O'NEILL. Another superb archive of 29 images, this time from photographer Martin O'Neill. We never expected an audience at all because it was in Bowdon Vale, don't ask me why. Martin asked if he could take some pictures and we said yes. Then when we started playing he was everywhere, under the drums, behind your amp between your legs, I had to kick him up the arse to get him out of the way. He has forgiven me now and of course, milk's those photos like a prize Friesian cow. Good on yer mate."
JOY DIVISION HANDWRITTEN & SIGNED LYRICS. 3 sets of handwritten and signed lyrics as used by Hooky when performing JD tracks. To include the unreleased Warsaw track "Pictures in My Mind", "Warsaw" which was the title track on "Ideal for Living EP" plus Shadowplay which featured on "Unknown Pleasures". All have been signed by Peter and date to 2010."Strange now to think how nervous I was in 2010 about playing these songs. Now it feels like the most natural thing in the world. This year we played at two huge Punk festivals, Rebellion in Blackpool and Infest in Bradford, and watching all those wonderful 'Punks' and' Lost Souls' screaming along made my heart sing! I thought "Without the Sex Pistols none of us would have been there!"
IAN CURTIS VOX PHANTOM GUITAR REPLICA AND CASE. Cream Vox Phantom Special with Bigsby bridge housed is soft shell TKL case. As used on Howard Marks Tour and for The Joy Division Exhibition."The original was given to Ian’s daughter. This was sourced for me for The Unknown Pleasures Speaking Tour as an exhibit. It is a very close copy by Brian Eastwood, but unfortunately the effects do not work. Ian loved these old Vox guitars and was really getting in to playing it just before his death. It featured on the ‘Love Will Tear Us Apart’ Video. Both guitar and said playing! His other guitar was a Vox Pear Drop. Unfortunately Twinny sold it to a music shop on Whit Lane, Salford for £50 because of a dispute with Rob Gretton over Crew wages….. never to be seen again."
BUZZCOCKS AND JOY DIVISION TOUR OF AUTUMN 1979. To include gig schedule, tour itinerary and a copy of the Buzzcocks "A Different Kind of Tension" LP (VG+/Ex). "Our big chance, we all gave up our jobs and ran away to join the Circus. My mother was mortified, as was my Bank Manager! Best decision I ever made, we had a great time and played fantastically, blowing the Buzzcocks off every night, in a playing sense of course. Loads of japes and adventures, wonderful times!"
HONDO RICKENBACKER REPLICA GUITAR AND JOY DIVISION SPRAYED CASE. A "HONDO II" bass guitar in a black hard case complete with "JOY DIVISION" stencil sprayed lettering. Included is a copy of a picture of Hooky playing his Hondo at Eric's, Liverpool."This was the second guitar I owned. Bought from a music shop round the corner from Strawberry Studios, Stockport. I beat the guy down from £99 to £95. Sadly this is not the original. It was sourced for me to complete my collection. I gave the original away, hungover, to someone for a charity auction. The EB-O was unreliable so I needed a better one. It came with it’s own problems and didn’t last long being replaced by my first Yamaha bass. With the curl on the headstock this guitar came in very handy for poking in spitting punk’s ears!"
ORIGINAL JOY DIVISION GIBSON EB-0 REPLICA - 1ST JOY DIVISION GUITAR AND CASE. The bass guitar where it all started complete with chords tippexed onto the headstock! Includes an original picture of Hooky playing at Rafters, Manchester (with a fetching cap and moustache)."The morning after seeing The Sex Pistols I went to Mazels in Piccadilly, Manchester and bought this…. my first bass guitar. For £35 borrowed from my mum. I could not afford a case because I needed the money for bus fare home. The guy gave me a couple of bin liners to take it home in…how apt! I was so excited I shook all the way to Little Hulton on the bus. When I got home my Dad said “What the bloody hell are you going to do with that?” I didn’t know. Later I went to Barney’s for our first practice. Wired in to his Gran’s record player and promptly blew it up. My dad fabricated the chrome pickguard at his works for me, Thanks Bill R.I.P"
