CONDITION REPORTS: Scuffing, scratching and staining, baize worn, one back leg loose, general wear.
An early 20th century Chinese Republic period carved and stained ivory figureWorked as a woman holding a sword and circular box and cover, stood beside a street lantern decorated with dragons and signed with calligraphic text, the shade worked with children playing in a garden landscape, the figure with incised red stained seal mark to base, standing on a cinnabar lacquer plinth base. 36.5 cm high. CONDITION REPORTS: Figure generally in good condition with expected wear, slight rubbing to decoration, some possible minor nibbles, lantern shade previously broken, re-glued and with losses, lantern stand with shrinkage cracks and slightly misshapen, thread worn, base with repaired chip.
18th century AD. An oval finely carved dark red agate intaglio with a scene of a god seated in a wagon, most likely Dionysus (Bacchus), pulled by two fauns playing a horn (?) accompanied by a pair of flying cupids, one faun playing a double flute dancing between the wagon and tree; Italian workmanship. 9.55 grams, 36mm (1 1/2"). From an important London, W1, collection; acquired from S.J. Philips; formerly part of the Esmerian collection. Extremely fine condition.
Ayutthaya Kingdom, 1351-1767 AD. A ceramic Sawankhalok Celadon light green glazed figure of an elephant with square platform to the back with three seated figures of musicians around a central hole, pierced fretwork arch with pointed finial over the platform; on the head a figure playing drums; body of elephant with applied discs and facial features. 455 grams, 25cm (9 3/4"). Property of a London collector, acquired early 1990s. Fine condition, repaired.
2nd-3rd century AD. A flat-section silver hop with expanding shoulders supporting a discoid plaque, high-relief image of Orpheus(?) wearing a mantle, advancing, playing a lyre. Cf. Ruseva-Slokoska, L. Roman Jewellery, Sofia, 1991, item 187 for type. 9.67 grams, 23mm overall, 18.78mm internal diameter (approximate size British R, USA 8 3/4, Europe 19.0, Japan 18) (1"). Property of a European collector; acquired Europe, 1980s-1990s. Fine condition; bezel restored.
