NELSON T. R. 'BOB': (1915-1999) British Squadron Leader with the Royal Air Force during World War II. A Prisoner of War from 1942-45, Nelson was held at Stalag Luft III at Sagan where his engineering skills were put to good use in order to build a ventilation system for the three tunnels used in the Great Escape of March 1944. Signed Christmas greetings card, the folding small 8vo card featuring a colour photograph to the cover of the Royal Air Forces Ex-POW Association's Reunion Service at Winchester Cathedral. Signed ('from Bob Nelson') beneath a printed greeting and with an autograph note to the opposite side stating, in full, 'We moved to Weymouth and like being back in England despite the weather. We went to a KLM Pilots' Reunion in Vancouver in September. I doubt whether we shall go to Ottawa next year but I hope to attend the Association's A.G.M. at the Royal Air Force Club in March. I hope you will be there and shall look forward to meeting you'. Nelson's printed address label is neatly affixed below his note. A good association piece between two of the 26 survivors of the Great Escape. About EX Bob Nelson had retired to Portugal in 1975 before returning to England in 1989. Following the end of World War II Nelson was employed as a captain and instructor with the Dutch airline KLM and later joined the Air Accident Investigation Branch in England. Moving to Canada, he joined the International Civil Aviation Organisation, writing an air crash investigation manual that became the international textbook for a decade. Provenance: The present card originates from the personal archives of Jimmy James.
Modern fretted Clavichord by David Owen , at A:425 pitch, in limewood case with separate carrying / storage case, the instrument measures 101cm long and the overall length 106cm NB. This instrument (constructed after one illustrated in Harpsichord and Clavichord by Raymond Russell) was made to be a second manual and sit on top of the Alec Hodsdon Clavichord included in this sale.
