Riesig, energiegeladen, farbgewaltig und mystisch ist Hermann Nitschs faszinierendes 'Bodenschüttbild'. Nitsch entwickelt aus dem Aktionismus des von ihm erfundenen 'Orgien Mysterien Theaters' seine eigene Variante des Informel: das Schüttbild. Dabei ist die Aktion des Schüttens ein künstlerischer Vorgang und das Ergebnis ein gesteuerter Zufall. Durch nachträgliche manuelle Eingriffe, das Bearbeiten der Farbe auf der am Boden liegenden Leinwand unter Einsatz des gesamten Körpers - wie unter anderem Nitschs Handabdruck rechts unten sowie das mit Füßen und Fingern zerfurchte Rot belegt - werden die teils pastosen und dichten Farbverläufe zudem noch durch die Energie des künstlerischen Schaffensprozesses aufgeladen. Die Leinwand protokolliert das künstlerische Ergebnis einer malerischen Aktion. Rot steht dabei für Blut - das eigentliche und alleinige Medium, das die orgiastisch-mystische Vision des Künstlers transportieren kann. In der vorliegenden Arbeit kombiniert Nitsch Tierblut mit darübergesetzter pastoser roter Farbe, die das Werk durch seine besondere haptische Präsenz und Dichte auszeichnet. Als Bildträger wird vorrangig Rupfen verwendet, der in seiner Unregelmäßigkeit und Grobheit etwas Archaisches hat und mit der roten Farbe (= Blut) korrespondiert. Der Niederschlag auf dem Rupfen bleibt als Dokumentation eines 'geheiligten' Vorgangs. So ist das Bild nur noch der indirekte Überbringer einer Botschaft, die bereits in der Aktion des Schaffensprozesses Ausdruck fand. 'Nitsch deutet das Leben als Passion, den Malprozess als verdichtetes Leben und damit als Inbegriff der Passion. Jedes Bild hat diese Botschaft. Alle Farbspritzer erinnern an Blutspuren. Hermann Nitsch's fascinating 'Bodenschüttbild' (Floor Pour Picture) is huge, energetic, colorful and mystical. Nitsch developed his own variant of Informalism based on the actionism of the 'Orgies Mysteries Theater' he invented: the poured picture. The pouring action is an artistic process and the result is a controlled coincidence. Subsequent manual interventions, the processing of the color on the canvas lying on the floor using the entire body - such as Nitsch's handprint in bottom right and the red furrows executed with feet and fingers - the at times impasto and dense color gradients are also the result of the energetic process of artistic creation. The canvas documents the artistic result of a painterly action. Red stands for blood - the actual and sole medium able to convey the artist's orgiastic-mystical vision. In the present work Nitsch combines animal blood with pastose red paint above it, which leads to a distinguished special haptic presence and density. The preferred image carrier is made of burlap, which, for irregularity and coarseness has something archaic about it and corresponds to the red color (= blood). The downpour of paint on the burlap is a documentation of a 'sacred' process. So the picture is only the indirect bearer of a message already expressed in the action of the creative process itself. 'Nitsch interprets life as passion, the painting process as condensed life and thus as the epitome of passion. Every picture has this message. All splashes of paint are reminiscent of traces of blood. All pictures speak of injuries, of injuries that cannot be erased. Bernard Cuzner. A silver spoon with hammered heart-shaped bowl and stem, the foliate intertwined finial (a/f) terminating in an amethyst cabochon. Maker's mark: BC (Bernard Cuzner), Birmingham, 1905. 30 grams. * Bernard Cuzner (1877-1956) teacher and designer from the early 1900s, he became Head of the Department of Metalwork at the Birmingham School of Art in 1910. He was influenced in his early career by Cattermole-Smith and Gaskin. He was also a designer for W.H. Haseler and Liberty from very early in his career, author of the "Silversmith's Manual" first published in 1935 and again in 1949 with numerous reprints and an important contributor to Arts and Crafts flatware.
