In the 1920's the Agassiz name was relaunched as a high end alternative to Longines. The world time complication was first invented by Swiss watchmaker, Louis Cottier (1894-1966). Cottier's classic World Time wristwatch depicted 24-time zones simultaneously, each representing 15 degrees of longitude starting from the Greenwich Meridian. Whilst the mechanism is most commonly associated with watches by Patek Philippe and Vacheron Constantin, Agassiz were another Swiss firm to receive the movement and fitted the complication to both pocket watches and wristwatches. It is estimated that Cottier produced approximately 455 of these movements with many being pocket watches, making the current lot an excellent opportunity to acquire a piece of watchmaking history. This lot is subject to the following lot symbols: YY Subject to CITES regulations when exporting items outside of the UK, see clause 13.For further information on this lot please visit Bonhams.com

Patek Philippe. A fine and rare lady's 18K gold and lapis lazuli manual wind bracelet watchReference: 4241/906Date: Manufactured 1984, sold 29th June 1984Movement: 18-jewel Cal.16-250 manual wind, No.1409435Dial: Lapis Lazuli, gilt lance handsCase: Brushed and polished rectangular form, snap on back, No.2742952Strap/Bracelet: Integrated two strand woven link with lapis lazuli insertsBuckle/Clasp: Signed 18K gold folding claspSigned: Case, dial & movementSize: 23mm x 26mm Accompaniments: Extract from the ArchivesFootnotes:Patek Philippe have produced an interesting range of hard stone dials throughout the decades - malachite, tiger's eye, onyx and lapis lazuli, as with the current lot, spring to mind immediately. But even though the looks of these different stones can give a completely different feel to the design of a watch, there is one thing they all have in common. Hard stone dials are always a challenge to produce but do not change over time. Carved from a large stone which needs to be of excellent quality, the slice needs to be cut exceedingly thin in order to produce a usable dial. Especially with types of stone that are on the more porous side in structure, this can be a challenge and many are rejected. The complicated production process is clearly worth the effort. The nature of the material means each dial is truly unique and characterful. For further information on this lot please visit Bonhams.com

Every Astronaut and Cosmonaut were equipped with an Omega Speedmaster Professional and in the case of Alexey Loenov, two. To celebrate this, in 1976 the Jeweller De Marchi of Turin took delivery of a group of special celebratory Apollo Soyuz watches with the mission badge on the dial and a special embossed case back depicting the Saturn Rocket on a map of the world. The back was also lightly engraved with the limited edition number, an I for Italy and an Ω.The present watch was bought new in 1980 at a large discount when it is possible that the Italian market was a difficult place to sell this particular piece. It was soon inherited by the present owner who left it unused in a draw for many years and only sporadically wearing it. For this reason, the dial is in excellent condition with virtually no UV damage. Very few of these original pieces were created and they have been celebrated ever since with anniversary editions being produced at 20, 25 and 30 years. For further information on this lot please visit Bonhams.com
