A one-owner Series III from 50 years of ownership, entered in our sale by its original supplying dealer. Offered with No Reserve. 50 years with its original owner and now brought to auction by its original supplying dealerNow retired, our vendor was offered the opportunity to acquire his friend's car upon his passing and he couldn't resist the opportunity to honour his friend's memory by making sure it went to a good homeNot your average Series III, the car had been used for years doing 'Land Rover things' until it occurred to our long-term owner that it might be fun to convert it into something specialLocal company, Andys Landys, carried out the conversion, using a donor Range Rover, so that it is now powered by a 3.5-litre V8 sitting on Range Rover suspension with Range Rover alloys and tyres, and a Range Rover gearboxOther developments included replacing the front bodywork with a Defender 90 front end to accommodate the larger and lower engine, as well as upgrades including Halogen headlights, power steering, front and rear discs and security door locksFinished in Limestone, it's comparatively understated apart from the Range Rover wheels and V8 gruffle and, we understand, it performs admirably and cruises easily at speedWhilst mechanically very good, cosmetically it could do with being taken to the next level, however its new owner may well choose to leave it as it is, a bit of a 'Q-Car'Specification Make: LAND ROVER Model: 88'' STATION WAGON Year: 1973 Chassis Number: 90106043A Registration Number: GWK 286L Transmission: Manual Drive Side: Right-hand Drive Make: RHD Interior Colour: Black VinylClick here for more details, condition report and images

Automobilia Vehicle - A 'barnfind' 1904 Historic Holsman Model 3 two-seat High Wheeler Horseless Carriage Runabout Piano body. Purchased for the London to Brighton Rally. With age related BS 8363 number plate (not SV), Chasis no. 246, with distinguishing Black Detz lights and rear mudguards only.Fully verified by The Science Museum, Tuckett Brothers, Cherished Car Insurance, State of New Jersey (copies) and DVLAThis Holsman High Wheeler, made in Chicago in 1904, was recently recovered from a local yard clearance where it had languished for years. Its existence was not previously known by the Veteran Car Club of Great Britain. It is thought there is only one other Holsman in this country. Before it came to the UK in around 2002, the High Wheeler belonged to Franklin B Tucker of New Jersey, who was very well known in US veteran car circles and was a past-President of the AACA (the Antique Automobile Club of America - the equivalent of the VCC in the UK).December 10th 1972 New York Times8 Years A-BuildingFranklin Tucker of West Caldwell has rebuilt a 1905 rope-driven Holsman literally from a pair of license plates. Mr. Tucker had been summoned to the family's carriage house to appraise what appeared to be an unusual set of license plates, and it was there that he discovered a pile of the original Holsman parts.Eight years were spent in assembling the rest of the parts, and today the machine, with its high wheels and two- cylinder air-cooled engine, can be seen cruising along with the rest of the antiques.August 11th 1978 New York TimesFranklin B. Tucker of West Caldwell, in his second term as national president of the club (Antique Autobile Club of America), points out that the hobby involves the entire family. The New Jersey Region Lists 435 members, with the wives admitted free if they belong to the national organization. Most hobbyists agree that while people seem to be most interested in the value of their restored automobiles they try to discourage inquiries because their automobiles are beyond value to their owners. Mr. Tucker has owned his 1913 Metz Roadster for 30 years. He also owns a 1924 Franklin and a 1905 Holsman.Eight years were spent in assembling the rest of the parts, and today the machine, with its high wheels and two- cylinder air-cooled engine, can be seen cruising along with the rest of the antiques. We have traced part of the history of this particular car, chassis number 246, with the help of American experts. We now know that it was discovered around seventy years ago by Franklin B Tucker as a pile of parts. His reassembly and ownership of the remarkable car was the subject of two articles in the New York Times in the 1950s. Copies of these are included with the car.The English buyer planned to drive it in the annual London to Brighton veteran car run but after an early journey to Ireland, it broke down before he was able to do so and was put away.'High wheelers' were popular rural America in the first decade of the 20th century, built to straddle rocks in the centre of the road. The Holsman was regarded as the very best of these, coming to be known as 'the Cadillac of high wheelers.' Holsman sold about 2,500 of them over a period of 8 or 9 years from the beginning of the 1900s. This very early example from 1904 is their 'Type 3'.It has a correct air-cooled flat twin engine which still turns over. Amongst the large quantity of spares which will also be sold (including two more sets of wheels in lot 250A and 250B).Franklin B Tucker wrote the only book about Holsman cars, part history and part workshop manual. It was printed in 1994 in a very limited edition of 100 copies. We have located one of these and will provide an electronic copy of the whole text to the purchaser. The provenance pack to accompany the car will include colour photographs from its final trip to the Irish mountains and a number of letters regarding the car and its history, plus the bill of sale from Tucker to its new Somerset owner.Film of similar Holsman cars can be seen on YouTube listed as:• The Holsman Automobile 1898 start engine• A Drive Back in Time: The Holsman Revisits Cow Canyon• 1907 Holsman Automobile_0001.wmv• 1906 Holsman Auto buggy ride• 1902 Holsman High Wheeler• Neville Museum Minute - Holsman Runabout Automobile• 1907 Holsman ticking over

Rupprecht Geiger 1908 München - 2009 München 446/66. 1966. Öl auf Leinwand. Verso signiert und datiert. Auf dem Keilrahmen betitelt. 82 x 90,5 cm (32,2 x 35,6 in). [JS]. Privatsammlung Norddeutschland. AUSSTELLUNG: Rupprecht Geiger, Kestner Gesellschaft, Hannover 1967, S. 61, Kat.-Nr. 42 (auf dem Keilrahmen mit dem Etikett). Rupprecht Geiger, Malerei - Graphitzeichnung, Städtische Kunsthalle, Düsseldorf 1967, S. 32, Kat.-Nr. 41 (o. Abb.). LITERATUR: Pia Dornacher/Julia Geiger, Rupprecht Geiger. Werkverzeichnis 1942-2002. Gemälde und Objekte, architekturbezogene Kunst, München 2003, WVZ-Nr. 429 (m. Abb.). 'Der Himmel ist von beispielloser Farbenpracht und von unglaublicher Weite. Die Möglichkeiten sind unbegrenzt', hatte Rupprecht Geiger bereits 1941 in seinem russischen Kriegstagebuch festgehalten (Rupprecht Geiger, zit. nach: Pinc kommt! Rupprecht Geiger, The Schaufler Foundation, Dresden 2017, S. 31). Oil on canvas. Signed and dated on the reverse. Titled on the stretcher. 82 x 90.5 cm (32.2 x 35.6 in). [JS]. • Rupprecht Geiger is one of the most important representatives of German Color Field painting. • Finely modulated, early color field that impresses with its gentle oscillation of red hues. • A particularly early example of Geiger's use of the spray gun, which began around 1965. • The early luminous compositions are considered Geiger's most sought-after works. • Geiger's famous color modulations were exhibited several times at documenta between 1959 and 1977. • Red Color Fields from the 1960s can be found in important collections such as the Städel Museum, Frankfurt am Main, the Städtische Galerie im Lenbachhaus, Munich, the Neue Nationalgalerie, Berlin, and the Pinakothek der Moderne, Munich. PROVENANCE: Galleria Peccolo, Livorno (label on the stretcher. Private collection Northern Germany. EXHIBITION: Rupprecht Geiger, Kestner Gesellschaft, Hannover 1967, p. 61, cat. no. 42 label on the stretcher). Rupprecht Geiger, Malerei - Graphitzeichnung, Städtische Kunsthalle, Düsseldorf 1967, p. 32, cat. no. 41 (no. fig.). LITERATURE: Pia Dornacher/Julia Geiger, Rupprecht Geiger. Catalogue raisonné 1942-2002. Gemälde und Objekte, architekturbezogene Kunst, Munich 2003, no. 429 (fig.). 'The sky is unprecedentedly colorful and incredibly vast. The possibilities are unlimited', Rupprecht Geiger noted in his Russian war diary in 1941 (Rupprecht Geiger, quoted from: Pinc kommt! Rupprecht Geiger, The Schaufler Foundation, Dresden 2017, p. 31). It is the soft color modulations of the sky that appeal to Geiger and which are transformed at night by burning cities into impressive color scenarios that become counter-images to the oppressive reality of war for Geiger. From the 1950s onward, red and blue are the colors that decisively shape the impressive artistic work of the German color field painter Rupprecht Geiger and initially appeared in combination until the end of the 1950s. At the beginning of the 1960s, the two color values were finally clearly separated. While red, as the color of blood and fire, stands for extreme energy and emotional charge, the cooler blue is the more rational, more self-composed color. By using sprayed paint, Geiger gently modulated the red rectangle, which appears to push itself into the format from above, upwards from a rich dark red to a glowing orange and, surrounded by radiant white, has brought it into an almost floating balance. Around 1965, Geiger began to replace his hitherto manual application of paint with that of the spray gun, which henceforth allowed for finer color modulations. The present work is a particularly early example in this new technique. Rupprecht Geiger not only created art-historically significant works with his color modulations, but also with his shaped canvases, which earned him a special progressive position within German post-war art, as Helmut Friedel suggested in the foreword to the catalogue raisonné, demanding stronger comparison with American contemporaries like Mark Rothko, Ellsworth Kelly and Barnett Newman. In the USA, Geiger's paintings were shown in various exhibitions from the 1950s onward and the artist was awarded the Solomon Guggenheim Prize in New York in 1959 .
