A RARE AND EXTREMELY LARGE PAIR OF MOULDED FAMILLE ROSE 'WU SHUANG PU' VASESLate Qing DynastyEach vase of baluster form and decorated in mirror image, the body of each finely moulded and painted with the four historical figures Liu Chen, An Min, Dong Fangshou and Yue Fei, the shoulders moulded with the Hehe twins on one side, and the Star Gods Cai and Zi, all against a yellow sgraffito ground set with flowering stems, the shoulders set with elephant head handles suspending a fixed ring, stylised lappets around the foot, the rim with a key-scroll band above a pendent ruyi head border.124cm (48 3/4in) high (2).Footnotes:清晚期 粉彩模印無雙譜人物圖瓶 一對Vases of this massive scale were first produced in the late 17th and 18th Centuries for export to the West where they graced the doorways of European palaces and stately homes. At the time they were typically referred to as 'soldier' or 'dragoon' vases, a name thought to derive from a historical incident in 1717 when Augustus the Strong of Saxony is said to have traded 600 cavalrymen, known as dragoons, for a collection of 150 Chinese porcelain vases in negotiations with Frederick the Great of Prussia. It is therefore fitting that the famous general Yue Fei (1103-1142) has been selected for inclusion on the body of these 'soldier' vases, along with Liu Chen (220-265), prince of Beidi also depicted in military garb. The other two figures are the official and courier of Emperor Wu Dong Fangshuo (154-93 BC) and stone mason An Min (1050-1125).The figures are taken from the Wu shuang pu compiled by Jin Guliang during the mid-17th century. The manual describes forty peerless heroes from the Han to Song dynasties. The descriptive texts reproduced over the body of the vase are also taken from the woodblock printed manual. The text became a popular source of inspiration for famille rose porcelain of the late Qing period. Vases of the subject on this scale are known, for example, a pair of vases 131cm high depicting scenes from Wu Shuang pu was sold Bonhams Knightsbridge, Asian Art, 9 May 2022, lot 152. However, the moulded detail and craftsmanship of the present vase ranks high above other known examples of the subject. For further information on this lot please visit Bonhams.com

1967 Honda CB77, 305cc. Registration number RWF 343E. Frame number CB77 104204. Engine number CB77E 107557. Sold with the V5C, workshop manual and key. With specifications that would have been the exclusive preserve of exotic racing machinery only a few years earlier, the sports roadsters that began to be introduced by Japanese manufacturers in the early 1960s seemed tailor-made for production racing. One of the first to make its mark in this increasingly popular and important branch of motorcycle sport was the Honda CB72, an overhead-camshaft ‘250’. Introduced in 1960, the twin-cylinder CB72 produced 24bhp at 9,000rpm and weighed just 337lbs, an excellent power-to-weight ratio the endowed the supremely well-specified ‘CB’ with a level of performance challenging that of many British 500s. More powerful yet scarcely any heavier, its close relative - the 305cc CB77 - was the first Honda to make an impact in the middleweight class. Essentially an over-bored CB72, the CB77 arrived in Britain in 1963 and like its quarter-litre predecessor was soon making its presence felt on the racetracks. RWF is a recent import from the USA, our deceased vendor being the first UK owner. He recommissioned it before his untimely passing but it will need further light recommissioning before road use. Sold with the V5C, workshop manual and key.this bike comes from a deceased estate and has not been started for at least 6 months, I have not heard it running and not tried to start it. The vendor had 6 bikes that we are selling on behalf of his widow, they were all runners before he passed away

It is powered by a liquid-cooled 4-stroke 2-valve SOHC single-cylinder engine with a claimed power output of 13.4 hp. VSM was bought new by Kirsty Leigh and has hardly been used. It has just had its first MOT at 1,435 miles, there was a recall on the ignition coil and this has been rectified. Sold with the V5C, MOT until August 2024, service book and owners manual, plus one key.

1963 BSA Bantam D7, 175cc. Registration number VGV 483. Frame number LV:O.347-483. Engine number ED7B 25575. Sold with the V5C and a Haynes workshop manual. The introduction of the first 172cc model - the D5 - for 1958 marked a number of developments, the most important of which were a stronger big-end bearing and improved lubrication. A raised compression ratio and larger carburettor increased maximum power to 7.4bhp and the top speed to 59mph. Introduced for 1959, successor D7 model - known as the Bantam Super - featured the 172cc engine while boasting a new frame, hydraulically damped front fork, bigger brakes and up-swept handlebars. VGV has been issued with a new DVLA frame number, presumably when it was re registered with them in 1982. Owned by our deceased vendor for several years it will light recommissioning before road use. Sold with the V5C and a Haynes workshop manual.
