Remains of the mark 'F Escof... / Entrep...' on one side. Smooth cylinder with old finishing and St Etienne stamp. Frame featuring an old finishing and provided with loading gate and manual extractor. Wide, iron trigger guard with finishing and functioning, triple-action mechanic. Grip with smooth, wooden grip scales and ring for the strap. length 19,5 cm.

Marked 'CHMELOT & DELVIGNE IN.ON B.TEE. Six-shot cylinder with stamps, engraved with twisted bands and leaves. Frame with typical loading gate on the left and with manual extractor. Mechanic to be checked. Grip with ivory grip scales. Folding trigger. Kept in its old, wooden case with brass mounts and blue-velvet lining at the inside. Complete with ramrod, screwdriver and key. length 24 cm.

Kitâb al-mutâjir, 442pp., Naskhî script, black ink, headings and keywords in red, commented sentences ruled in red, decorative headpiece on the incipit, main text framed by a close red and double-lined gold rim, additional larger outer double-lined black frame, later lacquered boards, inset with floral motifs, boards detached, 210mm x 300mm, ?c.1850 Kitâb al-mutâjir, or The Book of the Merchant, is a manual of rules concerning commerce. This fine copy was possibly commissioned for display or teaching purposes as an outer frame has been drawn around the text, perhaps to allow for marginal comments. ISABELLA I OF CASTILE: (1451-1504) Queen of Castile 1474-1504. Catholic Monarch who ruled jointly with her husband Ferdinand II of Aragon as The Catholic Monarchs 1475-1504. They are recognized for laying the foundations for the political unification of Spain, and also for completing the Reconquista as well as their support and financing of Christopher Columbus´ voyage of 1492 which led to the opening of the New World. An exceptional manuscript letter, dated in 1492, only two months after the discovery of America, signed by the Queen `Yo la Reyna´, one page, oblong 9 x 7, Barcelona, 20th December 1492, to Alonso Ramirez de Villaescusa, in old Castilian. The Queen states `..My Royal representative in the town of Valladolid, you already know that I sent you an order to approach Don Diego de Zúñiga in order that he attends his wife Beatriz Brana and have her back in his house and company. I have since then learned that although I sent an order, when I was present in the city of Valladolid, saying that he has to separate from Leonor de Riaño and receive back his wife, he has not done so, and do not take in charge his wife maintenance.´ The Queen further reiterates her order stating `I order you to attend to this with all diligence and grant that Don Diego complies with what I have ordered, and that he treats well his said wife, supports her and gives her all necessary for her maintenance, as he is obliged to do as a Christian.´ Before concluding Queen Isabella I sends a threat `Assure him that otherwise I will be angered and will order that the matter be remedied as may be just.´ Countersigned by Juan de la Parra. Folded. Small area of paper loss to the right edge, as a result of the letter opening, not affecting the text or signature. VG £4000-6000Alonso Ramirez de Villaescusa (1450-?) An excellent document signed by the Queen and King, `Yo la Reyna´ and `Yo el Rey´, one page, 9 x 9 page, Granada, 12th October 1499, to the Royal representative in Valladolid, Alonso Ramirez de Villaescusa, in old Castilian. The document refers to the grant of a patent letter which they are sending to their correspondent in Valladolid, stating `..We are ordering that they send their parliamentary representatives to wherever we may be on twentieth of November next coming..´ further saying `..you endeavor and grant that they choose their parliamentary representatives among those who seem to you have the better intentions…and that the powers they bring are very complete and in accordance with our said patent letter..´ Countersigned by Miguel Perez de Almazán. The letters bears a very attractive watermark showing a hand. With an extensive contemporary annotation to the verso. Few extremely small holes not affecting the signatures. Napoleonic War and Abolition of Slavery Interest: Admiral Lord Gardner’s Naval Despatches Whilst C-In-C (Commander-In-Chief of the) Channel Fleet 1808.being a collection of handwritten letters variously dated 1807 and 1808, from The Rt Hon. Lord Gardner to his second-in-command, Vice Admiral John Duckworth, KB. One with particular reference to the Abolition of Slavery, dated 30th April 1808 and sent from Lupton House, details:…His Majesty’s Instruction, under his Signet and Sign Manual, dated the 16th March 1808, to the Commanders of His Majesty’s Ships of War Privateers, directing that all vessels having on board Negroes, captured on the Coast of Africa, pursuant to the provisions of an Act of Parliament passed in the 47th year of His present Majesty’s Reign, entitled ‘An Act of the Abolition of the Slave Trade’, be carried to Sierra Leone, a colony on the Coast of Africa, for Adjudication. You will receive herewith for the Ship Ulysses under my Command at Plymouth Twenty two Copies of His Majesty’s Instruction abovementioned: And in pursuance of Their Lordship’s Instructions to me, you are to direct the respective Captains, Commanders, & Commanding Officers, to pay the strictest regard and attention thereto'. Other entries of note include: List of vessels homeward bound, 1st December 1807; List of Ships stationed off L’Orient, Rochfort, Finol and Bec du Raz; Information that ‘The Enemy’ have 'a 64-gun ship and three frigates ready…and two line of Battle Ships in a state of equipment'; 'December 15th 1807 at 10 A.M. Reconnoitred the Enemy in Brest from on-board His Majesty’s Schooner Capelin, Lieutenant Thos. Delafour Commander from off the Paraguette Rock and observed: Seven Ships of the Line, Two Frigates, Two Brigs, Apparently ready for Sea, Top Gallant mast up', and instruction to 'Proceed without a moment’s loss of time with six sail of the line, two frigates, and two sloops to take a station in the latitude of Rochfort for the purpose of interception of the Enemy’s Squadron, which lately escaped from that port', the letters in a 19th century marbled slip-case with entitled leather spine.
A double-manual harpsichord by Mahoon, London, 1738 The walnut cross-banded and chevron inlaid case with engraved brass strap hinges and similarly engraved flap hinges and S-hooks, raised on a walnut stand with four turned legs. The keywell in figured walnut with geometrical inlay work, with a similarly decorated name batten bearing a rectangular boxwood plaque inscribed: Joseph Mahoon London. The five octave keyboards FF/ GG-f3. Ivory naturals and moulded boxwood fronts, with ebony and ivory skunk-tail accidentals. Dated 1738 on the upper keyboard & 1742 on the lower one, also signed: Broom Smith 1738 on a key. A paper label on the underside of the front lid section giving indications of the registration combinations. Two eight-foot stops, one four-foot stop and a harp stop controlled by four brass-knobbed stop levers. Length 248cm, width 94cm, case height including lid 29.5cm. A double-manual harpsichord by Shudi & Broadwood, London, 1790 The mahogany cross-banded and line inlaid case and with three gilded metal S-hooks. Raised on a trestle stand with four square tapered legs. Fully adjustable music desk. The satinwood keywell cross-banded with mahogany and line inlaid. The cross-banded name batten with two line inlaid panels flanking a central boxwood plaque inscribed: Burkat Shudi et Johannes Broadwood Patent No 1137, Londini Fecerunt 1790 Great Pulteney Street Golden Square. The five octave keyboards FF-f3 with ivory naturals and ebony accidentals with moulded boxwood fronts. Registration: 3 x 8ft, 1 x 4ft, lute and harp. Two pedals operate the machine and the venetian swell. One brass-knobbed hand stop on the left of the keyboard, and a further five through the nameboard, labelled: Lute >; 4' >; Buff Pull; 8' >; 8' Serial number 1137 Length 247cm, width 97cm, case height including lid 37cm. A double-manual harpsichord by Tull, London, circa 1935 The antiqued painted case, with floral motifs within gold banding all on a black ground. The inner lid painted with a pastiche Italianate scene. Raised on a painted scalloped frame stand with seven cabriole legs. The painted keywell decorated with foliate and floral designs bearing a gilded name batten inscribed: HENRICVS TVLL FECIT LONDINI. The music desk, bearing a paper reproduction of the harpsichord name batten, sold with this lot. The separate cross-banded and inlaid harpsichord name batten inscribed: Baker Harris Londini fecit 1780.The five octave keyboards FF-f3 with ebony naturals, boxwood arcades and ivory accidentals. One four foot and two eight foot registers, and a lute stop controlled by four labelled hand-stops. The floral painted soundboard inset with a gilded rose bearing the initials B.H. The five octave keyboards FF-f3 with ebony naturals, ivory-capped accidentals and gilded arcades. Six pedals (disconnected) mounted on a stretcher controlling four rows of jacks and a jeu de luth. A very early example of a Gaveau harpsichord, probably designed and made under the supervision of Arnold Dolmetch during his period with Gaveau from 1911 to 1914.

SARCAR, GENEVA: TWO GOLD POCKET WATCHES COMMEMORATING THE SHAH OF IRAN’S CORONATION, CIRCA 1967both with manual wind 17 jewel movements signed Sarcar, the gilt satin dials with the Shah’s emblem and applied baton indexes and baton hands, the medallion form cases with broad bezel decorated with burnished stars on a frosted ground, milled edges, Swiss 18 carat gold marks, one with dial signed Sarcar, the reverse stamped with a scene from the coronation ceremony of the Empress kneeling before the Shah, with black tassel, black slip-case and its black box, the other with conjoined profiles of the Shah and the Empress Farah Diba to the reverse and with black tassel, black slip case and its fitted blue box, both boxes gilt stamped with the Shah’s emblem3.1cm diameterA number of variants of these medallion form watches, all with the same bezel but differing backs, appear to have been produced as gifts from the Shah.
