A 1953 Austin A40 Somerset 1,622 cc. petrol-engined, four-speed manual gearbox, four-door saloon motor car finished in black with beige upholstery. Registration No. NLU 367. First registered on the 26th January 1953. Engine No. 16AMW-L-H 345762. Currently showing 36,719 miles, (Not warranted Correct). She was acquired by the current owner in 1979 and she has been used on a regular basis since that time. In 1982, a 1,622 cc. A60 engine was installed (Swansea Notified) and in 1984 an A60 rear braking system was fitted replacing the original system. In 1993 the chassis was extensively repaired utilising 2 mm. thick stainless steel and all necessary repairs were attended to including new brake pipes, brake cylinders, brake shoes and new Phosphor Bronze rear leaf-spring hanger bushes. The indicators replacing trafficators were installed by a previous owner. A new wiring harness was fitted about 10 years ago. As will be noted, the engine is fitted with an S.U. carburettor. A new battery with a two year guarantee is fitted. The car starts immediately and the engine is running well, however the clutch would appear to require adjustment, as gear selection is currently rather difficult. Attention will be required to the foot-brakes, possibly the master cylinder, and a master cylinder is to be found with the car. This classic Austin of cute cloud-form, has very easy access via the large doors and a level floor without the normal obstacle of a raised sill. The car is M.O.T. and Road Tax exempt and the larger engine endows her with good power and torque. A 1957 Austin A50 Cambridge 1,500 cc. petrol-engined, four-speed manual gearbox four-door saloon car finished in black with red upholstery. Registration No. 93 CPF, apparently first registered on the 28th February 1957. Engine No. 15WC-U-L17632. Currently showing 40,446 miles (Not Warranted Correct). We are selling this vehicle for the second owner, who acquired her in 1980 and has used her over the intervening years on a regular basis. Most A50s were produced running on 15" diameter wheels, however this car was factory-fitted with 13" diameter wheels as a test prior to the 1958 A55 series cars being produced with that new wheel diameter. A new wiring loom was fitted about 10 years ago and the reconditioned engine was fitted in January 2024. As will be noted, the engine in this car is fitted with an S.U. carburettor. A new battery with a two-year guarantee is fitted. The owner drove her over 20 miles to the sale-rooms and she behaved impeccably during our local run for the filming of the on-line video and we can confirm that the heater worked rather well during the recent cold spell.
