An Ebel WW2 Air Ministry, manual wind, gents, stainless steel wristwatch, dated 1943, the dial having centre seconds and Arabic numerals, on a fabric strap, 6B/159, scored out and later reissued as a 6B/234, 504/43. These 6B/159 watches were originally issued as flight tools for pilots and navigators during WW2 however almost all of them were later reissued towards the end of the war with the reference 6B/234 meaning that it was downgraded for general use by airborne and ground crew. This could be an indication that they no longer met the tight specifications required by the Air Ministry. 32mm

A married bricklayer, he served in France from 24 October 1914 as an Orderly with the British Red Cross and Order of St. John of Jerusalem, the medal roll noting ‘Boulogne Unit No. 4’. He later transferred to the Royal Engineers.

A wood, stainless steel and diamond set manual wind wristwatch Circa 1980 Manual wind movement, round black dial with four diamond dot hour markers, pencil hands, dark wood case front, case back with serial and model numbers, diamond set crown, dial signed Van Cleef & Arpels, movement and case signed Gerald Genta, together with Van Cleef & Arpels suede pouch 28mm diameter excluding crown Gerald Genta, still heralded as one of the most innovative jewellery and watch designers, designed for Van Cleef much later on his career. He had already by this point designed the Polerouter, the Nautilus, the Midas and many other significant and distinctively different case designs. In the case of this Van Cleef watch, he chose to return to one of his favourite shapes to use in design, the hexagon, and once again experimented with texture and form combining wood, steel and diamonds. The case back is scratched and a bit rubbed. Perspex crystal has crazed a little. Dial has aged quiet evenly and is dirty on the 30 minute dial.
