All brasswork is tarnished. The mahogany sides are all a little dry and have some stains and marks but there are no splits. All joints are secure. The stool top is detached from the base. It is not warped. The legs are all structurally sound. There is no evidence of any repairs or restoration. There are recesses in the legs where castors would originally have been.

CONDITION REPORT: This desk is generally in extremely good condition. It is a good colour. The top is flat with no significant marks or scratches. There are no splits to the sides and all drawer fronts are in good condition. The handles appear to be original. The recessed cupboard is in good order. All bracket feet with the exception of the rear right-hand foot are in good condition. The right-hand rear foot is missing the bottom section of the outer bracket. A late George III mahogany desk with fitted drawers, the top with inset writing surface and strung decoration above four oak lined drawers, one drawer with further adjustable writing surface, a smaller drawer with hidden compartment, all with turned wood handles and boxwood stringing upon square tapering legs terminating in brass castors. 117 cm wide, 75 cm high, 69 cm deep. CONDITION REPORT: The desk is structurally very sound with no movement at the joints or castors. The writing surface is in good order with no perforations. The crossbanded edge is in generally good condition with only very minor veneer nibbles. These are more evident around the corners. All drawers run smoothly and are in good condition with the original knob handles. The legs are all in good order with no repairs and the castors would appear to be original. The height to the top of the desk is normal desk height around 75 cm. The kneehole recess appears a little low, the height being 54.5 cm rather than the usual 58/59 cm. The castors do however appear to be original and it does not seem that the piece has been reduced in height although this is a possibility.
