A 19th century continental stained-wood (possibly fruitwood) pedestal desk; the thumbnail-moulded red-morocco and gilt-tooled leather inset top above an arrangement of 11 drawers, the central drawer carved with flowerhead lunettes in Aesthetic style, the pedestals panelled on the inner and outer sides, the rear of the desk with two panelled doors enclosing shelves, the front drawers headed with oval patera in low relief and flanked by fluted verticals, raised on plinth base (137 x 75 x 75 cm) * Condition: Leather good with just a few small scratches. Left hand side of the desk has some fading to the polish. Some small knocks and marks to the edges of the kneehole from a desk chair. No damage or losses to the mouldings. One of the plinths is separating a little to one corner. Later handles. Original locks - there are 12 working keys for the drawers (one original and 11 copies), but the cupboard at the back of the desk are missing the keys. Overall in good condition.
A late 19th century stained-wood pedestal desk: Rexine-inlaid top with a single full-width drawer (as three); two pedestal bases flanking the kneehole space, each with three graduated drawers; plinth-style base. (Both pedestals stamped Foley & Son - Salisbury - 1894. The single full-width top drawer also stamped to the left and right hand sides of the central brass lock). (LWH 108 x 56.5 x 75 cm)
