A FINE MID-VICTORIAN FIGURED WALNUT KIDNEY-SHAPED KNEEHOLE DESK, in the manner of Gillows, the centre drawer with Bramah lock with ten graduated drawers either side, all with cast brass foliate handles, each pedestal with concealed Bramah lock to the hinged pilaster, the sides with ebonised mouldings and the reverse with open adjustable shelves, the crossbanded top with boxwood stringing and inset later maroon tooled leather, on Cope’s patent brass castors, 131cm wide x 73.5cm high x 67cm deep (the centre frieze drawer signed in pencil “D Taylor” to underside).
Small Edwardian oak desk, plain rectangular top, panelled sides and back, the kneehole flanked by two short drawers to each side, shaped finger pulls, width 121cm, depth 56cm, height 77cm.Condition report:The top has bleached in colour compared to the sides and front which retain a good honeyed tone to the oak. The top has the expected mark, stains, and rings with a desk of this age. Drawers are generally good and sound, some interior staining to the lining. The side and finished back panel remain in fair condition, the back panel does has two vertical lighted strips that form the shadow of the kneehole divisions. A good solid desk though.
Modern desk with black ash top, standing on slatted panels, acquired from Habitat, length 182cm, depth76cm, height 76cm; together with a cantilever chrome framed armchair, after a design by Marcel Breuer, height 80cm.Condition report:Some light surface marks to the desk top. The top rests on the base sections with small plastic dowels but some are missing so the top is quite loose at present. The chair (see images) is on good order. Some spot corrosion to the chrome finish.
