CONDITION REPORT: This desk is a very good example. It is very clean. We have the key for the lock. The roll is in good order with no splits, scuffs or damage. The interior is in very good condition with no significant scratching, scuffs or marks. There are some minor blemishes as one would probably expect. All side panels are in good condition with no splits. All drawer fronts are in good order and all run smoothly. Both slides are present. The back panels are in good order also. There are no significant issues with this lot.
A Victorian mahogany military desk, with red leatherette writing surface, moulded edge and single long frieze drawer modelled as three and with three further drawers to each pedestal with wooden knob handles and raised on short turned feet. Width 114 cm, height 74.5 cm, depth 59 cm (see illustration). CONDITION REPORT: The desk is in basically good condition. The top is flat with no warping. The leatherette writing surface is in good condition. The mahogany surround is also in good order. IT looks as if the desk will originally have had a detachable gallery. The brass mounted peg holes for this are visible but the centres have been filled in. This is a minor issue. The top drawer which is modelled as three is in fact one. It has interior divisions to one side. The false drawer divider to the left hand side is a replacement. All pedestal drawers are in good order and all locks are present. The rear of the desk is in good structural condition and all of the feet are present and original. There are numerous old marks and scuffs around the kneehole and feet as one would expect. The desk could be used in its current state without the need for repairs or restoration.
A George III style mahogany serpentine fronted pedestal desk, with brown tooled leather writing surface and three frieze drawers, each pedestal fitted with three drawers and opposing dummy drawers. The tooled leather writing surface has some old ring and liquid marks and various minor scratches and discolouration, with no tears or losses. The moulded edge is in good condition all round with some wear to the polish just above the kneehole. All drawer fronts are in generally good condition with only minor nibbles at the extremities. All handles are present. There are some veneer nibbles and small losses to either side of the kneehole recess. The four canted angles all have minor abrasions and rubs, no real issues. The opposite side of the desk with the dummy drawers has one small veneer loss to the top pedestal fake drawer. The sides of the desk are in good order with no splits. The plinth base has minor scuffs and marks as one would probably expect. The desk cold be used in its current state without the need for any work.
A George III style Harrods mahogany pedestal desk, with green tooled leather writing surface and fitted with three frieze drawers and with two further drawers to each pedestal. Width 152 cm, depth 87 cm, height 77 cm (see illustration). CONDITION REPORT: Pedestal drawer interior width 35 cm. The maximum depth of the left hand drawer is just under 76 cm. There is however a divider 18 cm from the rear of the drawer front. This is not detachable. The lower drawer width is 35 cm and the depth 76 cm. There is a movable divider in this drawer. The right hand upper drawer width is 35 cm and the depth 76 cm with a sliding divider which would be easily removable. The lower drawer has the same dimensions but has a fixed divider 18 cm from the rear of the drawer front. All drawers lock when the kneehole drawer is locked. A 19th century mahogany partners desk, with inverted breakfront, three frieze drawers, cupboard to each pedestal, panelled sides and raised on a plinth base. Width 170 cm, depth 91 cm, height 84 cm. CONDITION REPORT: The desk is structurally very sound. The tooled leather writing surface which is likely to be original is in generally good condition with no significant scratches, scuffs or any holes. The outline of the timber framework beneath the leather is visible in places and there is slight rippling to the writing surface which in our opinion is not problematic. The mahogany edge surrounding the leather is in generally good condition. There is one small area that has had a small filled repair. The frieze drawers run smoothly. The cupboard doors are not warped. The left hand cupboard door panel has a full height stress fracture. There are some scuffs around the kneehole as one would expect. The right hand desk side panel has a stress fracture to the panel. The desk is panelled all round so can be used in a freestanding capacity. The panels to either side of the kneehole both have a stress fracture to the main surface. Generally speaking the desk is in good order. We have called the desk a partners desk in that it can be sat at on both sides, however only one side is fitted with actual drawers and cupboards.
