Early 20th Century mahogany serpentine shaped twin pedestal desk, the carved moulded and leather inset top above nine drawers with ornate cast brass swan neck handles, the panelled pedestals with carved plinth mouldings, 132cms wideDesk does separate into three pieces. Generally in reasonable condition with various scuffs, marks, losses and splits consistent with age.

Vintage Retro : Gordon Russell desk chair. With cream button back woven fabric upholstery, black elbow rests, on a chrome mobile base. H81cm Condition Report: One of the buttons on the seat has popped up. There are light skuff marks on the back. The chrome is tarnished under the upholstery. Wheels are functioning.
John Wood (British, 1801-1870). Student at RA schools, gold medallist 1825. Self-portrait, half-length, seated at a desk with paintbrush and sketchbook, signed & dated l.r., 1831, oil on canvas, 75cm by 62cm, gilt frame, some craquelure and bitumen blisters, revarnishedNotes: John Wood studied at Sass's and the Royal Academy schools, where in 1825 he gained the gold medal for painting. According to a Christie's sale catalogue of 16 February 1872, Wood as a student at the RA 'obtained the notice of Fuseli and Sir Thomas Lawrence, and under the auspices of the latter he commenced his career in art'. He won the competition for the altarpiece of St James's, Bermondsey [The Ascension] 1844, and was commissioned by Earl de Grey to paint the ceiling panels in Wrest Park, Bedfordshire. His work is represented in the National Portrait Gallery, Sir John Soane’s Museum and the V&A. Some signs of warping patches to the veneer back edge of both sides and the top.
