A Victorian clerk's painted desk with hinged cover to fall, 117cm wide/Provenance: Spetchley Park CONDITION REPORT: Arts & Crafts style clerk’s desk. Red paint splattered with white emulsion. Some chips to writing slope and corner of lid missing. One peg to left trestle missing. Some dents and abrasions.

Bateman worked for Gillows between 1816-1833 and is recorded as becoming a freeman in 1825-26/Provenance: Spetchley Park/see illustration CONDITION REPORT: the tooled leather is very worn and stained, the surface of writing slope faded and stained; gallery good, pen box and slide to the right are stuck and handle of pen box chipped, other drawers are fine, the dummy drawer side are all fine as is the panelled back; the interior has one wooden knob missingNote: almost certainly made by Gillows
