Lot 570

Red cloth armband, 7 x 5.5 in., bearing an embroidered BeVo style ‘ORG. TODT’ band at the top, lightly soiled. The red field features a printed white disc with a black swastika at the center. Well-preserved, still retaining bright colors. The armband comes from the estate of Lt. John McConn, who ‘liberated’ the Munich Pact desk set offered elsewhere in this auction. Included in this lot is a 4 x 6 in. b/w photo of Lt. McConn posing in uniform, along with one of his patches bearing the insignia for the 45th Infantry Division.

Lot 650

Nazi party flag, 75 x 31 in., double-sided cotton construction bearing a black dyed swastika on a white disc, then sewn on a red field. Very lightly soiled from use and age and displaying some trivial holes at the edges. Overall, very good. This flag hung in the ‘Fuhrerbau’ (‘the Fuhrer’s building’), the site of Hitler’s offices and where Neville Chamberlain and Hitler signed the infamous Munich Pact. The flag comes from the estate of Lt. John McConn, who ‘liberated’ the Munich Pact desk set offered elsewhere in this auction. Included also in the lot are seven 4 x 6 in. photos of McConn, the desk set, and a copy of a letter he sent his parents from the Fuhrerbau on Hitler’s personal letterhead.

Lot 783

A superlative Adolf Hitler relic, a fine 25 x 25 in. linen napkin in the 'floral and ribbon' pattern, with a stunning, raised and embroidered national eagle and swastika flanked on either side by Hitler's initials 'A H', the embroidered eagle measuring 1 3/8 x 1 in. overall. The floral and ribbon pattern is discreetly woven into napkin, which in all is a very high-quality piece of table linen, the finest that Hitler used. Very fine condition. This important relic was discovered at Hitler's private office in Munich (the 'Fuhrerbau') by Lt. John L. McConn, Jr. in the spring of 1945. McConn was in command of a detachment of soldiers ordered to occupy and guard the building, and McConn himself slept only a few doors from Hitler's office, where the Munich Pact had been signed seven years earlier. In exploring the building, McConn's men found a trove of Hitler's personal effects in the basement of the building, stored there to prevent damage from the incessant bombing by Allied forces. Among the items uncovered were mother of pearl and gold inlaid presentation lugers, an enormous gold and ruby ring, and most importantly, a huge collection of Hitler's purchased and stolen art intended for display in the never-constructed Fuhrermuseum. As did all soldiers, McConn wanted to return home with souvenirs from his service in Europe, and he found this napkin in the Fuhrerbau where it would have been used by Hitler and only a very small group of his closest advisors and top generals. McConn also mailed home the famous Munich Pact Desk Set - offered by us elsewhere in this sale. Sold with a copy of McConn's May 6, 1945 letter home to his parents, written on Hitler's private stationery found in his office.

GEN. CHARLES S. FERRIN DESK NAME PLATE CHARLES S. FERRIN (1892-1976) was a highly-decorated Army brigadier general, who most notably served as the Provost Marshal of Tokyo after war's end and charged with the security of the International Military Tribunal, Far East, during the incarceration of the Japanese war criminals. During World War II, he was an Assistant Plans Officer at Pearl Harbor and the Artillery Commander of the 27th Infantry Division which fought with distinction at Eniwetok, Saipan and Okinawa. Lot 810

PHOTO OF HEINRICH HIMMLER TAKEN FROM HIS OWN DESK Original, fine seated portrait of HEINRICH HIMMLER (1900-1945), taken from Himmler's desk at his home, most likely 'Lindenfycht' near the shore of the Tergensee, and sent home by a GI to his wife as a souvenir. The 7 x 9.25 in. b/w photograph is a rare image of Himmler seated with his hands in his lap, his face shown in profile. On the verso appears a Heinrich Hoffmann studio stamp. The American sergeant who took the photograph was apparently placed in charge of securing the Nazi's office. He writes on the verso: 'May 6, 1945 Germany To my wife Florrie - Taken from Himmler's desk at his home where old man Ducker now has his office - [Signed] F/Sgt. Ducker' The photo bears a horizontal crease, probably from having been folded for mailing, and small creases at the corners, else fine.

Almost all of the silvering remains intact.
