* NIGEL GRIFFITHS: A HANDMADE OAK DESK of Jacobean style, the rectangular top with a frieze of three drawers with hand carved panel fronts and integral handle, each pedestal with a further three drawers with knob handles, on claw feet, 132cm wide, 51cm deep, 76cm high. Nigel Griffiths is a family business which has been producing fine handmade oak furniture in Derbyshire since 1946. Nigel's father, Rupert Griffiths, who was inspired by traditional English furniture design and the Arts and Crafts movement sold his furniture through top retail stores, including Harrods, until 1968. Since then it has been sold directly from our workshops.
AN ENAMELLED SILVER COLOURED METAL DESK TIMEPIECE, PROBABLY VIENNESE, The domed top with figural finial above a square section case with further cast figures mounted to each upper corner, above a Roman dial, the openwork crestings and spreading base panels all with central Bacchic mask flanked by grotesques in the manner of cloisonne work, raised on four paw feet; the dome, front, back and sides decorated with scenes of Olympian gods in Arcadian landscapes, overall height: 23cm.
