A group of three early 19th century desk seals with intaglio seals of John Jeffreys Pratt, Earl and later Marquess Camden, KG, the first a gilt mounted cornelian and ivory handled desk seal, the oval cornelian ingtalio engraved with the arms of the Most Hon. John Jeffreys Pratt, 2nd Earl and 1st Marquess Camden, KG, accollee with Pratt quartering Jeffreys with Molesworth in pretence, to a knopped turned ivory handle, 9.5cm high; the second a steel and ivory handle desk seal, the seal intaglio engraved with the arms (1st April 1794- 14th August 1799) of the Rt. Hon. John Jeffreys Pratt, 2nd Earl Camden; the third with a coronet cypher of two addorsed letters C below the Marquess' coronet for Marquess Camden, dating from 1812 to the present day, on a turned wooden handle. The seals offered in this lot were cut at different times during the life of John Jeffreys Pratt, Earl and later Marquess Camden (1759-1840). He married Francis Molesworth in 1876, and inherited the Earldom in 1794. During his life he was Lord Lieutenant of Ireland (1795-8), Knight of the Garter (1799) and Chancellor of Cambridge University (1834-40). He advanced to the Marquessate in 1812.
