Interesting Royal Air Force (R.A.F.) medal group and ephemera relating to Air Commodore Cedric Arnold Bell. Bell was born on 14th September 1905 in Hackney, London. He was commissioned into the RAF at the rank of Pilot Officer, aged 19, in January 1925, going on to serve as a pilot in 16 Squadron. Throughout the 1920s and '30s Bell rose up the ranks of the RAF as he attended signals courses and moved to Farnborough, as the Second World War began Bell was appointed a Wing Commander in 1940. Shortly after this, Wing Commander Bell travelled to America where he was head of the Radio Section, Technical Department, British Air Commission, Washington. His work in America saw him awarded the Legion of Merit in 1943. Bell returned from his success in America to become a Staff Officer - Radar, HQ Bomber Command. Appointed Air Commadore in 1949, Bell finally retired from the RAF in 1953 as a Senior Air Staff Officer, HQ No 90 (Signals) Group.Included in the lot is Cedric Bell's original Service Commission from 1925, medals comprising Second World War Defence Medal, Second World War War Medal, Elizabeth II Coronation Medal and American Legion of Merit (mounted on bar) together with miniature medals, framed citation from the award of the Legion of Merit, visitor badge from The Glenn L. 19th century mahogany partner's desk, the rectangular top with rounded corners, moulded edge and inset tooled leather, nine assorted drawers to either side, raised on plinth base, 200cm wide Condition ReportOne of the drawers is missing most of the handle, another two handles are damaged and one further is loose. Only 4 of the drawers have locks but the locks seem to be complete. There is some staining to the leather on top as well as some wear. There is a big scratch to one side. There are spots of wear throughout. See attached images.
A Victorian mahogany desk, the superstructure fitted with a series of drawers the base with moulded edge above two frieze drawers and raised on turned supports with downswept legs terminating in castors. Height 110 cm, width 134 cm, depth 60.5 cm. CONDITION REPORT: The two end raised drawer sections have staining to each top with some marks and scratches. The raised gallery has a split to the back section on the left-hand side. The right-hand side also has a split to the back raised section. The central rectangular section has some marks and scratches, staining and four filled holes running horizontally. The rounded rectangular top again has some staining and water damage mainly to the sides, the frieze drawers appear to be in good condition and the trestle base is in generally good condition commensurate with age and use with scuffs, edge knocks minor marks and scratches. The right-hand side column has some splitting to the base, the left-hand side has some splitting also with some small depletions to the base section.
A late Georgian mahogany desk, with stage back fitted with drawers and pigeonholes with leatherette writing surface above a series of five frieze drawers and all raised on turned legs terminating in brass castors. Height 109 cm, width 137.5 cm, depth 75 cm. CONDITION REPORT: This desk is in a solid condition but has a few minor issues to mention:- right-hand moulded edge of gallery top is loose and the retaining piece of moulding to the right-hand edge has been lost to both the side and the back, meaning that this right-hand portion of gallery has no support. Moving to the front there is damage to moulding above the second open pigeonhole (you will probably be able to see this damage from the photograph), the vinyl writing surface is slightly damaged. The shaped sides to the writing surface are both slightly loose. Above the right shaped side of the writing surface you will be able to see from the photograph a faded patch rising and covering the three small drawers immediately above and also to the right-hand side of the desk - presumably this is because the desk as been placed in sunlight for a period of time. Looking at the front of the desk below the writing surface there is chipping around the moulded edges of the left-hand twin dummy drawer, slight chipping above the central drawer and also slight chipping above the right-hand double drawer - presumably where the lock as been forced previously. Finally the back right leg appears to be slightly loose.
An Edwardian oak pedestal desk by Maple & Co, the superstructure fitted with two drawers and spindle turned back. Height 100 cm, width 125 cm, depth 69 cm. CONDITION REPORT: The raised back has marks and stains throughout but overall is in sound condition. There are some edge knocks to the central shelf but overall it is generally good. The T-shaped inset skiver has been replaced with a vinyl type leather effect material and this material is lifting to the edges and corners with some small losses. The top has some marks, stains, and scratches but overall generally good. The drawer fronts again are in good condition with some wear above the backplates. Each drawer retains the original locking mechanism, the drawer interiors do have some staining, the sides panels are again generally good, the pedestal back panels have some splitting but overall this desk is in good condition and would benefit from some feeding and polishing and a replacement skiver.
A George III oak partners desk, the top inset with gilt tooled red leather, fitted with 9 graduated drawers to front, the reverse fitted with a central cupboard flanked by 8 graduated drawers, all on bracket feet, 77 cm x 158 cm x 94 cm (see illustration). CONDITION REPORT: This desk overall is in a good condition. There are shrinkage cracks to the side panels on the right hand side and this side, closer to the window, is slightly faded.
An Edwardian mahogany Carlton House desk, inlaid with satinwood banding, the top inset with gilt tooled brown leather, on square tapered legs and castors. 103 cm high, 123 cm wide, 62 cm deep. CONDITION REPORT: On the top of the desk the ormolu gallery appears to be in good condition. Both of the super structure lids open to reveal three division stationery compartments and the dividers for these compartments are in good order and the hinges for these lifting lids are also in good condition. Both of these super structure drawers open and close properly. The leather writing surface has some scuffing and wear but no major damage or tears. Looking at the front of the desk all of the drawers open and close properly and there is no major damage to any of them present. Finally the legs all appear to be in fair condition. In summery this desk has slight scuffing, minor moulding chipping and wear throughout but generally is in a fair condition.
A George III gentleman's kneehole dressing chest, with lifting top enclosing fitted interior with mirror, on bracket feet. Height 81 cm, width 102 cm, depth 64 cm. CONDITION REPORT: The top is flat and not warped. There are a number of ring and water marks and some damage to the polish. There are minor stress fractures to the timber. The sides of the desk are in good order with no significant issues. There are minor surface scratches and stress marks. All drawers have later handles and there is evidence of the previous handles visible. There are some losses to the cockbeading on most of the drawers and various other old repairs. The bracket feet are original and in good condition. The backboard has been replaced. We can see no evidence of any woodworm.
A Victorian ivory desk seal the silver matrix engraved "Sir Arthur Stepney Bart MP" and hallmarked for London 1893, 15 cm long. CONDITION REPORT: This seal has a few very short hairline cracks emanating from the silver matrix. These cracks only extend about a 1 cm at their longest. In addition there are a few very short hairline cracks around the bead rim above the matrix. Apart from this the seal has some surface dirt and grime and requires cleaning but there is no major damage to mention.
A silver mounted desk clock and a gold plated Waltham pocket watch. CONDITION REPORT: The desk clock is in very good condition. There are no issues with the silverwork or the easel back. The movement is coarse. It is not currently ticking. It will at least need a battery. The Waltham pocket watch winds and is ticking away. The pointers adjust. The case has numerous surface scratches and small dints but closes as it should. The watch glass is a little scratched ad marked. The dial is in generally good order with no issues.

An interesting early 20th century Negretti and Zambra desk thermometer, the ivory scale marked with both fahrenheit and also reaumur scales, contained in black Morocco leather covered case. 13.5 cm high. CONDITION REPORT: The case is in generally good condition and has aged appropriately. The thermometer scale has some slight fading to the numbering and on the scale. The thermometer works and it appears fully functional. There is some minor staining and bending to the inner lining of the case but overall it is in good condition commensurate with age and use.
