AMERICAN CIVIL WAR: SMITH WILLIAM D. (1839-1864) American Orderly Sergeant who served in the American Civil War with the 53rd Regiment of Indiana Infantry. An interesting collection of documents relating to the Civil War career of Smith, including two partially printed commission documents appointing him as a Sergeant in 1862 and Private Sergeant in 1864, two discharge certificates, March & April 1864, various Property Returns prepared by Smith and submitted to the Quartermaster General’s office, including lists of Camp and Garrison equipage, monthly returns of clothing received and issued in the field, May & June 1864, various Special Requistion forms for trousers, shirts, haversacks, pouches, camp kettles, mess pans etc., further documents acknowledging the receipt of various items including ink stands, field desk, mules, horses, wagons, tents, clothing etc. Most of the documents bear various signatures of officials, largely associated with the 53rd Regiment. Some light overall age wear, G to about VG, 30 The 53rd Regiment of Infantry, Indiana Volunteers was organised at New Albany and Indianapolis, Indiana, from 19th February 1862. The regiment numbered 1000 men and were soon called into action, moving from Indiana to Mississippi and Tennessee, where they became involved in General Grant’s central Mississippi campaign. Smith himself was killed in action at the Battle of Atlanta on 22nd July 1864, almost exactly a year before his regiment was disbanded.
PATCH ALEXANDER: (1889-1945) American General of World War II. A good vintage signed and inscribed 8 x 10 photograph depicting Patch seated in a half length pose, in uniform, at his desk, signing a letter which appears before him. Signed in dark ink across a largely clear area of the image, 'To Their Majesties and my lovely friends from A M Patch, Lt Gen U.S.A.' and dated 5th June 1945 in his hand. Contained in the original presentation frame to an overall size of 9.5 x 11.5. VG The present photograph was apparently presented to King Leopold III of Belgium (1901-1983) King of Belgium 1934-51 and Princess Lilian of Belgium (1916-2002) Second wife of King Leopold III.

Vintage signed 9 x 7 photograph of Khrushchev seated in a half length pose behind his desk within his office at the Kremlin. Signed with his name alone in blue fountain pen ink to a light area at the base of the image. One very small, extremely minor tear to the lower white border, VG
BLANC MEL: (1908-1989) American Voice Actor & Comedian. Signed colour 8 x 10 photograph of Blanc seated in a half length pose behind his desk, surrounded by various images of Looney Tunes cartoon characters including Bugs Bunny, Tweety and Sylvester. Signed by Blanc in black ink to a clear area at the base of the image, 'Eh - what's up Doc? Love from Bugs Bunny & Gang, Mel Blanc' and dated 19th December 1984 in his hand. Together with Chuck Jones (1912-2002) American Animator, associated with the Looney Tunes cartoons. Two individually signed 5.5 x 8.5 printed drawings by Jones, the first depicting Daffy Duck and the second Wile E. Coyote. Both are signed by Jones in bold pencil with his name alone to clear areas. Autograph letter signed with embossed ‘General Post Office Edinburgh’ head Autograph letter signed ( W.R. Mitford ) with embossed General Post Office Edinburgh head, appointing G. Wallace as Surveyor s Clerk and specifying your destination will, no doubt, be the Northern District when the necessary arrangements have been made ; 2 pages, mailing folds, ink slightly faded, 8vo, 30th January 1896. Also included are the envelope signed by Mitford addressed to G. Wallace and containing his letter of appointment as Surveyor s Clerk and his temporary pass and a pen sketch probably featuring Wallace working at his desk.
A George III Mahogany Kneehole Desk or Dressing Table, late 18th century, the moulded top above a long frieze drawer with compartmented interior, arched sliding drawer below and cupboard door flanked by six small drawers, raised on a plinth base, 106cm by 67cm by 82cm Top with some discolouration and deep scratches. Split along the back edge, and this section of timber replaced. Verso with recent boards. Platform with later timber? Original brasses. Oak lined drawers. Divided interior to top drawer in need of some work. Faults to cockbeading with small sections replaced. Later handle added to central drawer. Bottom left hand handle incomplete. 060215
A Late Regency Mahogany Roll Front Desk, 2nd quarter 19th century, the tambour front enclosing an arrangement of drawers and pigeon holes, the base with a long frieze drawer and two short drawers above an arched apron, raised on turned tapering legs with brass toes and castors, 112cm by 69cm by 114cm Cosmetically good and in original condition. With key and working locks. Backboard replaced, with later screws. Minor bruising to drawer fronts, legs and sides consistent with age. Tambour reasonable. General surface scratches and minor natural? small split to writing surface. 170215
