A George III silver desk stand, Henry Chawner, London 1792, the navette shaped base with reeded border on four raised feet, 16.5cm long, with three accompanying cut glass bottles with silver coloured mounts each 7cm high, weight (excluding bottles) 3.27oztCR; Glass bottles in good order. Some small chips and abrasion to the exterior high points, general scratching, wear and tear. Several chips to the glass on one of the pepperettes and the central bottle, around the inside rim. The cover on the central example is stuck and cannot be removed. Silver coloured mounts in good order, some minor denting, general scratching and wear, no splitting or repair. Stand in good order, no large denting, splitting or repair. Frames in good order, no large dents, splits or repairs.

The curved feet carved with dragon / beasts faces, both to their tops and their endings. The wooden mounts intricately carved three sides with wine tendrils and grapes as well as with a two-part dragon’s mane and a squirrel. There is an handwritten inscription below the central drawer: “Ce bureau a appartenu à Ferdinand de Lesseps”, lit. “This desk did belong to Ferdinand de Lesseps”.H: 71 cm – L: 157 cm – depth: 73 cmProvenance (according to the inscription): Ferdinand Marie Viscount of Lesseps (1805-1894), the French developer of Suez Canal and a renowned French Diplomat.
