An extremely fine and rare 19th Century diorama of a school room interior depicting a hedgehog as the school master at his desk, conducting a lesson to his class of weasels, squirrels, and kittens, one of whom is in the "Dunce's" corner, each holding a book, in a well decorated classroom, with maps of Ireland and only North America, pictures of animals, and an Act of Parliament Wall Clock, with glazed front, approx. 59cms (23") high, 80cms (31 1/2") wide; 30cms (12") deep. A 19th Century military mahogany and brass bound writing desk on a later stand:, the upper part with a fitted interior with pigeon holes and three small drawers about a central small metal safe, enclosed by a pair of doors with interior stationery compartments and with reeded spandrels and central oval medallion, the lower part having a slide with detachable brass candle sconce and with a single long drawer below with recessed brass handles, on turned tapered legs, the cabinet 77cm (2ft 6 1/4in), the stand 81.5cm (2ft 8in) wide, 132cm (4ft 4in) overall height.
A 19th Century Indo Colonial hardwood and ivory inlaid rectangular kneehole desk:, bordered with ivory lines, the rectangular top with a band of ivory, strung with ebony, having a reeded edge with rounded corners, containing a central drawer in the shape ogee pointed apron flanked by four short drawers to either side with recessed brass handles, between reeded mouldings, the sides with brass carrying handles on lions claw feet, 114.5cm (3ft 9in) wide.
