Victorian campaign mahogany portable writing desk with inset brass mounts, escutcheon inscribed Mr .I Ball, the hinged top disclosing a partly fitted interior with a support, (bar missing) and secret drawer below, H. 18 cm, w. 51.2 cm, D. 25.3 cm, 10 cap badges including the Hampshire, Suffolk and Leicestershire Regiments, Royal Engineers, tanks, others and a pair of binoculars. Condition Report: Two splits in top and polish missing, damage where lock has been forced, paint marks and rubbing to back, marks above drawer and all-over marks. Inside Leather split across join and left end piece loose. Leather marked all-over, no keys and 1 inkwell replaced. Binoculars - 1 eye piece lens missing screwthread faulty/jammed. Overall marks to leather and scruffy.

A FINE GEORGE V SILVER-GILT AND JADE DESK SET, by Charles Boyton, London 1935, comprising ink stand, with two clear-glass lined ink pots, central rectangular pot with carved jade fruiting tree to hinged cover, the two triangular handles inset with carved jade plaques, the foliate border with applied floral sprigs to the corners, together with a desk blotter with carved jade Shishi finial, paper weight with similar carved final and green onyx base, and a letter opener, with carved jade plaque inserts to the handle, all pieces hallmarked and paperweight also with inscribed Charles Boyton signature. (4) Inkstand 28.5cm wideThe absence of a Condition Report does not imply that a lot is without imperfections. Please note carefully the exclusion of liability for the condition of lots contained in the Conditions of Sale.Marks to all pieces clear and well struck, with conforming date letter throughout. Hinges to ink stand all sound, outer two to ink pots with very slight wobble. Repair to back right corner of top strapwork foliate border. Letter opener blade squint, with nicks to blade edge and bent tip. Rectangular jade surround pieces to inkpot lid, blotter and paperweight handles all with various cracks. Gilding lightly rubbed to pen well. Light surface scratches and tarnishing throughout, commensurate with age and use
A late 19th century oak pedestal desk; the cross-shaped gilt-tooled green-leather inset moulded top, a shelved superstructure with smaller drawers, above an arrangement of nine drawers, raised on bracket-style feet with castors (138cm x 76cm)There is an inscription plate that appears to be silver plated and annotated Thames Lodge 1895; there is a fair amount of scuffing, scratching and discolouration to some of the upper area and the central back needs re-affixing, there are ink stains mostly to the front of the top of the desk and the gilt-tooled green leather is not in the best of conditions with water marks, cup marks, tears, rips and possibly burn marks prevalent to the left and right sides mostly; the handles look original, there is scuffing and colour away from the bottoms of the bracket feet as expected commensurate with age; all of the locks appear intact and look as though they have never been away from the drawers; viewing from the right looks good, viewing from the left looks good, some scratches and minor scuffs to drawer fronts: the desk needs new leather and some repolishing

{} A Late Victorian Mahogany and Marquetry Inlaid Carlton House Style Desk, circa 1900, with pierced brass balustrade gallery above six small drawers inlaid with flowers and trailing foliage flanked by cupboard doors above a green leather writing surface flanked by two small drawers and three drawers below, on square tapering legs with brass capped toes and castors, 137cm by 67 cm by 103cm The leather is worn. Generally good condition with some slight variations in colour mainly around the drawer fronts. Minor repairs/patching around the drawers (see images). Some general scuffs consistent with age. There is a deep scratch on the marquetry floral section below the gallery. Drawers are oak lined and run freely. All drawers and cupboards are open but with no key.

The desk has lost some colour with various fading. The top section is in need of a leather or baize writing surface. The front edge moulding is damaged. Top right-hand drawer section of veneer is missing and also one handle is missing. Further general scuffs and faults around the base (see images).
