GREAT WAR - TWO GERMAN 1916 'GOLD FOR IRON' MEDALS of blackened iron, the obverse illustrating a right-facing kneeling woman offering her gold necklace, the obverse inscribed 'IN EISERNER ZEIT' above and dated '1916' below, the reverse inscribed 'GOLD GAB ICH ZUR WEHR EISEN NAHM ICH ZUR EHR' above a wreath of oak leaves and engraver marked 'HOSAGUS' below, both mounted for display in a polished stone desk paperweight, 9cm x 14cm.
SECOND WORLD WAR - A SCRATCH-BUILT CAST ALUMINIUM DESK MODEL OF A FLEET AIR ARM BLACKBURN B-24 SKUA 15cm long, on a brass wire and turned wood circular base, 24cm high. Note: The Blackburn B-24 Skua was a carrier-based low-wing, two-seater, single-radial engine aircraft operated by the British Fleet Air Arm which combined the functions of a dive bomber and fighter.
GREAT WAR - A RARE COLONIAL WEST AFRICAN TOGOLAND 'TRENCH ART' DESK STAND the rectangular base mounted with a coconut shell and inlaid with bone French and British Union flags, shrapnel and plaques inscribed 'ANGLO-FRENCH-OCCUPATION' and 'TOGO 1914-15', 18cm long. Togoland - After calling on the German colony to surrender on 6 August 1914, French and British troops invaded unopposed the next day. No military personnel were stationed in the protectorate. The colony surrendered on 26 August 1914 and on 27 December 1916 Togoland was separated into French and British administrative zones. Following the ratification of the Treaty of Versailles, on 20 July 1922, Togoland formally became a League of Nations Class B mandate divided into French Togoland and British Togoland, covering respectively about two-thirds and one-third of the territory.
An Edwardian silver desk stand with two cut glass ink wells on silver tray (by William Hutton & Sons Ltd., Sheffield 1906), 26 cm wide, 6.55 oz CONDITION REPORTS Tray : one of the oval holders for the glass ink well has missing rivet so holder is currently loose, generally with some wear and scufs and a few minor knocks and dents. One ink well with large chip to foot rim and some smaller chips to top rim. Other ink well appears to be sound, with just some minor frits to the top rim. Aperture to the silver tops to the top of the glass ink wells approx. 8 mm diameter, aperture to top of glass ink well is approx. 2.2 cm across (internally).
An early 20th Century walnut double pedestal desk in the 18th Century manner, the top with tooled leather insert and moulded edge over three frieze drawers and kneehole flanked by two banks of three drawers on bracket feet, 103.5 cm x 77 cm CONDITION REPORTS Size approx. 103.5 x 54 x 77 cm high. Overall with wear, scuffs, knocks and chips, top with warping and splitting at joins and leather insert extremely worn, torn and stained, colour of drawer fronts generally appears reasonably good and the wood has some figuring, drawers run reasonably well although some work is required to the stops as some of the drawers push in further than they should, generally with some cracking and movement to veneers.
A Victorian mahogany double pedestal desk, the top with moulded edge enclosing a tooled and gilded leather writing surface over a central drawer bearing stamp "T. Willson, 68 Great Queen Street London", flanked by two banks of four further drawers with turned and reeded handles, 153 cm wide x 55.5 cm deep
