An Old Sheffield plate and tortoiseshell snuff box of simple circular outline, the Old Sheffield plated base with reeded details, the pull off slightly domed cover with pressed tortoiseshell with half length portrait of the Duke of Cumberland facing left, with applied silver details, within a foliate scroll inlaid border 6cm diameter
Aberdeen - a Scottish provincial mounted horn cruet William Dunningham & Company, marked WD&Co, S, 925, comprising open mustard, pepperette and lidded salt, the flared cow horn formed body with simple mounts with silver covers etc, with horn salt and mustard spoons; together with a horn snuff box by the same maker Note: William Dunningham & Company, like many other companies in Aberdeen, made a large amount of mounted horn goods. This was due to the high demand for Scottish souvenirs from the booming tourist industry. Interestingly the horn was supplied from off-cuts and spares from the Aberdeen Comb Works. Their craftsman also helped make some of the more complex items.
Ballater - a fine Scottish provincial silver snuff box William Robb, marked ROBB / BALLATER Edinburgh 1917, the rectangular box with plain silver sides, the hinged lid with reeded borders and set with mother of pearl cover, with collet set oval citrine to centre and with applied fret cut foliate trailing detail 7.5cm x 5cm x 3cm Provenance: Property from Encombe, Dorset and La Chasse, Jersey - Christies, 23rd January 2007, lot 25 (part).
