Maritime interest:- a William IV silver-gilt snuff box by Thomas Ellerton, London, 1836, chased in relief with a three-masted ship heeling on a rough sea, reeded sides, engine-turned base and chased floral borders, 8.5 cm. long, wt. 152 gm. Although this example is not inscribed, these maritime scene boxes were often presented to the captains of ships by the passengers for bringing them to safety in perilous seas Condition reportIn good clean condition, there are a couple of tiny dings or kinks in the inner border or frame of cover at top left, bottom left and bottom right otherwise good
A George I silver snuff box of scalloped form, maker’s mark indistinct, London, 1716, with leafy scroll engraving above the hinge, a face engraved at centre base of shell, gilt interior to cover, plain base inscribed “I*H”, lion’s head erased to front of side, maker’s mark and lion’s head erased to top above hinge, date letter, Britannia, lion’s head erased and remains of a fourth mark inside base, 7.6 cm. long, wt. 56 gm.
