An 18th century Austro-Hungarian snuff box, of shallow oblong form with reeded borders and a gilt interior, the cover and base stamped in low relief with putti in a grotto landscape, maker's mark "DS", town mark c "crown" struck also with prussian storage marks, unascribed c.1740, 3.15in (8cm) wide, 3oz.

Maker Deakin & Francis, Birmingham 1897, and a glass vesta holder with a silver mounted rim on a spreading foot, 2.5in (6.25cm) high. (3).

Two George III wooden and silver mounted navette shaped snuff boxes. The smaller box with hinged cover mounted with silver engraved shield with monogram 'J B S'. Inside the cover fitted with a glazed memoriam oval framed hair lock. 9cm long. The larger box with chased silver hinge, oval silver shield (blank) and silver mount to the edge, 10 cm long. (2)
A tortoiseshell, miniature portrait, snuff box, early 19th century of circular shape. The cover inset with a miniature by Guiseppe Tresca. The portrait of a young female head and shoulders turned to left wearing a pink silk turban and robe, signed bottom right. 'Trseca f. Vme ', 6cm diam. The interior of the box silver lined. 8cm diam.
A Louis XVI enamelled gold snuff box by Jean-Baptiste Marie (fl. 1769-1788), marked, Paris, 1778/1779, with charge and discharge marks of Jean-Baptiste Fouache, later struck with two post 1864 French import marks, oval, the base and side panels enamelled in translucent caramel-colour on an engine turned ground, the cover with oval portrait plaque painted en grisaille with Joseph II (1741-1790), Holy Roman Emperor, flanked by a nude child with laurel crown and the Habsburg eagle with globe, sceptre and sword, the gold border enamelled with green leaves and chased with flowers surmounted by a bow cresting, the side pilasters hung with green enamelled swags, the frosted gold borders with twisted green and opaque ribbons enclosing pellets, 8cm (3.25") wide Provenance: Christie's London, 22 May 2001, Lot 152 (see illustration)
