A late Victorian Scottish carved wooden "blind man" snuff box, decorated all over in high relief with scenes from the adventures of Tam O'Shanter, 1880-1900, 14.7cms long.NB:Mythical and folklore stories abound where these snuff boxes occur and some believe that they were carved by a blind man operating in Ayrshire at the end of the 19th Century, or were perhaps made in the Mauchline workshops, or they could just be for the use of the blind, given their exaggerated detail and large size.
A silver Scottish Provincial snuff box, rectangular with rounded corners and a slightly domed cover inset with a gold cartouche, inscribed with the date "1697", struck inside (twice) with the incuse initials "D", S & H", by Alexander MacRae of Inverness (AMR, running horse, struck twice inside), 1820-40, 7.5cms long, 3.3oz.

A George III Silver-Gilt Snuff-Box, by Joseph Ash, London, 1809 oblong, the hinged cover cast and chased with figures in a classical landscape, the sides cast with foliage and shells on a matted ground, the base with simulated basket-weave motifs, later engraved inside with an initials and 'New York'75mm wide, 5oz 7dwt, 167grFully marked on cover bezel. Further marked on one side with lion passant only. The marks are clear. There is some minor wear and surface scratching. The wear is noticeable as a minor softening to the high points and the gilding.
