A early 19th century Irish presentation silver snuff box, by Aneas Ryan, Dublin circa 1805, pointed oval form, the hinged cover has been partly poorly erased by is possibly the crest and motto of the 4th Derry Batalion of Militia, with the crest of a lying deer, initials WM and a military bugle, length 7.5cm, approx. weight 2.2oz.

A GEORGE IV SNUFF BOX of rounded oblong form with concave, reeded sides & a rectangular cartouche on the cover inscribed "D.C. Bacon", the gilt interior inscribed "Snuff box of Captain David C. Bacon, born 1787, afterward owned by his grandson Daniel C. Bacon Presented April 1913 by Ellen S. Bacon to Robert Bacon also a grandson of the first Daniel C. Bacon" by Nathaniel Mills, Birmingham 1828; 2.1" (5.3 cms) long; 0.75 oz *Captain Daviel Carpenter Bacon was the eldest son of "Squire" Ebenezer Bacon and his second wife Rebecca Jenkins of Barnstaple. He was born May 25th 1787 in the Old house on "Bacon Farm" that had been in the family since the time of the settlement of the town in 1639. Captain Bacon made his first voyage as master in the ship Xenophon c.1807 and succeeded Captain Sturgis in command of the ship Atahualpa in 1810 and make a voyage to China. He commanded several more ships, making his last voyage in 1820 and, thinking of moving to America, he settled in Boston, living at 149 Tremont Street from 1832-1844, moving to Jamaica Plain after that. He owned and had interests in many ships and he built the Gamecock at East Boston which was the fastest ship of her kind for years. He was President of the Boston Marine Society in 1839 and died in November 13th 1856.
