A George III Silver Snuff-Box, by Joseph Taylor, Birmingham, 1810, curved oblong and with hinged cover, 51mm wide, 12dwt, 18grCondition report: Part marked inside base and cover. There is some minor wear to the marks, though they are still legible. There is some overall surface scratching and wear. The seam is slightly opening up at one corner. The surface is somewhat bright. The cover closes flush.
A quantity of 18th century and later treen including Mauchline ware money box, acorn form nutmeg graters, pounce pot, Tunbridge ware nutmeg grater, painted papier mache and mother of pearl inlaid snuff boxes (one tray)Condition report: Nutmeg grater one- bone ring around grater with cracks and chips. Hairline cracks occurring at 12, 4 and 8 o'clock on the main body. Nutmeg grater two - later damaged and has been glued along with bone ring into the body, which has several hairline cracks. The cover with a noticeable chip and crack. Papier Mache snuff box with a few scuffs and scrapes to rim of cover, otherwise OK. Acorn form thimble holder - with associated cover and a noticeable scratch to the body. Cylindrical snuff box - the cover is swollen and does not close properly. Tunbridgeware nutmeg grater - a few minor scuffs but generally OK. Pounce pot - modern and thread is broken. Cigarette box in generally good condition. Mauchline ware clock with numerous scratches. Tortoiseshell snuff box - broken and with losses at the hinge. Mauchline ware matchbox holder with a chip to one side. Pounce pot two - with some chips to the base, otherwise OK. Bottle with two screw elements - the thread on the larger section with losses but still works, the thread on the smaller section screws then stops. Treen snuff box with age related crack to inside. Papier mache snuff box with crazing and losses. Further papier mache snuff box painted with a ship - some loses to cover on inside rim. Mauchline ware snuff box "Impudent Puppies" with some scuffs. Circular papier mache box with some scuffs. Tunbrigeware nutmeg grater, with losses and scratches to cover and losses to the foot. Three further modern Tunbridge items are in good condition.
A 19th century Swiss gold and enamel oval snuff box, for the Turkish market, having wavy bezel, the top, sides and base decorated with panels of flowers, within gilt heightened borders of ribbons and foliage, on blue and pink grounds, apparently unmarked, 8.5cm wide, in original leather case.Condition report: Some large losses of enamel to sides, mostly to the floral spray panels and blue ground, which require repair. Some further smaller losses of enamel to top, sides and base, mostly to border decoration, and areas of crazing. Scuffs, scratches and nicks/chips to the remaining enamel surface and to the mount, commensurate for use. Two shallow linear dents/impressions and scattered shallow pinpoint dents/impressions to base, visible to interior. The hinge is functioning but there is some slight gapping when the cover is closed to the base. Gold standard is untested. Dimensions approx. 8.5cm x 6.05cm x 2.2cm depth. Gross weight approx. 140gm.
A 19th century silver and tortoiseshell snuff box, of plain oval design, the hinged lid with inset oval bright-cut plaque, with engraved monogram, unmarked, 10.5cm wide.Condition report: The bottom inside surface, and a small patch on the inner lid, are heavily marked. Otherwise overall good condition, with age related wear, patination and marks throughout.
An antique painted metal 'Jacobite' snuff box, of circular form, the exterior painted in dark green, the lid revealing a secondary secret lid painted with an enamel portrait of Charles Edward Stuart, in green and red tartan cloak, 7cm wide.Condition report: Small amount of paint loss to edge of lid and an old repair to the centre. Small losses/chips to paint on edge of base and the same to the lid, which has a 'varnished' border to stabilise. Small chip to left of centre and some crazing. Age related wear, patination and marks throughout.
