A German carved boxwood snuff box, late 19th century, enclosed is a contemporary card which states that the box depicts the famous 'old' Muller string quartet arguing over a piece by Mozart, the card goes on to list the musicians dates, the fact they played between 1831 and 1855, and the instruments that each of them played h.2cm., w.10cm., d.6.5cm.

A GEORGIAN IVORY TOOTH PICK BOX oblong, the hinged cover with a circular glazed panel of petals and leaves, the interior with a mirror, 8.25cm, also an ivory and gilt metal rectangular snuff box, the cover with a square inset glazed panel within dotted borders and reeded sides, 6cm, an ivory needle case, 9cm, and an ivory handled perfume bottle corkscrew, 10.5cm (4).
A George III silver snuff box, with integral hinge and of curved oblong shape, reeded overall, 7. 5 x 4. 5cm, London 1812 . An engraved inscription to the underside of the lid dated 1835 relating to John Lord Teignmouth, the maker's mark poorly struck, the second letter being E. On the exterior some slight overall wear but in acceptable condition, the hinge without any play. No splits or repairs, the other marks good.
Four Austro-Hungarian silver and silver gilt snuff and other boxes, including an oval example, the ivory inset lid with a plaque carved with frolicking children, the largest embossed with a bacchanal, 12. 5cm diam, some spurious 18th c marks; an embossed silver gilt hairpin box, by Deakin & Francis, Birmingham 1893, 21ozs gross (5) . A decorative group in generally good condition albeit with some wear, the gilding 20th c, no serious faults and no other damage or repair.
A Queen Anne silver oval snuff box, the lid inset with a tortoiseshell panel engraved with birds and flowers and secured by three pierced leaves, with conforming thumbpiece moulded rim, and offset hinges, 8cm w, maker's mark only to the lid and base Ga (gothic), a mitre above, probably William Gattliffe, c1705 . Small repair with glue to the moulded silver rim around the lid at one end. The engraving to the tortoiseshell slightly rubbed but no serious faults or repairs. The marks good.
A Scottish Provincial silver mounted cowrie shell snuff box, with moulded mount and slightly domed and shaped lid with thumbpiece, 7. 5 x 6. 5cm, probably Perth, town mark only doubly struck, c1825. In overall fine condition with slight signs of wear as to be expected but no damage, cracks, solder repairs, or other faults, the mark reasonably clear.
An extraordinary silver mounted tortoise carapace table snuff box, of attractively variegated shell, the plastron forming the lid and with moulded mounts engraved with panels of flowers and ribbon tied foliage, the integral hinge made "invisible' by the line of diaper engraving, 5. 5cm h, 10cm w, apparently unmarked, mid-19th c . Very light overall wear but no damage or repair and most unusual.
A fine Russian silver gilt snuff box, engraved to the lid with an eagle, ears of wheat in its talons, the underside with a domestic scene of a young woman reading to two children, the octagonal frame engraved with four dates from 1780 to 1788, in flat chased borders of scrolling foliage, with baskets of fruit to the angles, the sides reeded and with shaped thumbpiece, 9. 5 x 7cm, 84 (. 875 standard), maker's mark untraced, Moscow,assay master's mark, 1822-55, 6ozs 10dwts. In generally very good condition with minimal wear, a short inscription erased from the banner carried in the eagle's bill. On the underside of the lid a two line later engraved inscription dated 1950. The maker's mark excellent, the other mark slight indistinct, no damage or repair. (See lot 876 for illustration).
