Leicestershire Regiment Interest, a Victorian silver table snuff box with re-entrant corners and reeded bands and thumb-piece, the hinged cover with an applied Tiger passant gardant, the badge of the Leicestershire Regiment, mark of Brownett & Rose, London 1861, 5cm high, 11cm wide overall, 8cm deep (2 x 4 1/4 x 3 1/8th inches), 362g (a little over 11 1/2 ozs)
A Victorian silver rectangular snuff box. Engraved all over with scrolling leaves around a cartouche shaped reserve, and with a floral chased thumb-piece, mark of Francis Clark, Birmingham 1840, 1.75cm high, 7.5cm wide, 5.5cm deep (5 8ths x 3 x 2 1/8th inches), 107g (a little under 3 1/2 ozs)
Ten Silver and Sterling Silver Vesta Cases, by various makers and dates, including a small Continental vesta stamped 800 standard with snakeskin effect and applied with oval cartouche, crown and scrolls, combined gross weight 6.8ozs, a white metal vesta/snuff box and one other base metal vesta caseThese cases appear to be in relatively good condition with no obvious damage/loss/restoration. There is however some typical light scattered wear and scratching.
A George V Silver Mounted Tortoise Carapace and a Selection of Snuff Boxes and Card Cases, the carapace with mounts and ball feet, hallmarked Sheffield 1915, 5.25ins x 4ins x 3.25ins high, a tortoiseshell rectangular card case inlaid with silver stringing, 4ins x 3.25ins, three various snuff boxes and a white metal mounted burra bean vesta caseCarapace - some very light scattered chipping and loss to outer cover, particularly at back. The interior has been stripped out. Retainer tortoiseshell snuff box with white metal inlay - chip to back left corner of box. Tortoiseshell card case - appears to be in good condition. Vesta case - appears to be in good condition. Small rectangular snuff box with white metal inlay - appears to be in good condition. Nut with white metal fittings - crack to base.
AN OVAL GILT, CAST AND ENGINE TURNED SNUFF BOX, LONDON 1826. In very fine condition, the lid has a border of cast laurel leaves and the base has a flush hinge. The box retains all its gilding both inside and out. Made by Alexander J Strachan. 4.8 cm. 64 g. PROVENANCE: From the Private Collection of the Late George Withers (1946-2023)
A GOLD MOUNTED TORTOISE SHELL SNUFF BOX INSET WITH A WEDGEWOOD JASPERWARE PLAQUE, C. 1800. The lid is set with a gold frame chased with scrolls and urns beneath a crystal cover. The gold lined interior has a cut away section to the lid revealing the stamped 'Wedgwood' mark on the base of the plaque. 8.5 cm.
