Stuart Memorabilia. A rare 18th century Jacobite giltmetal and painted circular snuff box with concealed miniature, English or Scottish, the slightly domed lid flat chased with a border of scrolls and foliage in a milled bezel, hinged to reveal a miniature of Prince Charles Edward Stuart (1720-1788), painted in oil on tin, the sides and underside painted with the Stuart tartan, 7.5cm diam, mid 18th c (see illustrations) ++ The gilding on the lid mostly worn off, the miniature in good condition with peripheral flaking, not affecting the portrait, the painted tartan decoration to the sides and underside of the box largely worn away, the interior of the box rather rusty and worn into a hole at 3 o'clock but a rare and evocative genuine contemporary 18th c object made for a Jacobite sympathiser and rare. The painted portrait, a particularly charming naive version of a familiar image
