A late 18th century silver and gilt metal, inlaid tortoiseshell snuff box, circular with a two colour vase of flowers on a regular ground of pellets and mullets, the interior unscrews to reveal a concealled miniature painting (behind glass) on ivory, depicting a boudoir scene wherein a gentleman is pushing his point home with scant opposition from his lady friend, indistinctly signed, c.1785, 3. 15in (8cm) diameter.
A George II oblong snuff box, the waisted sides chased with husks & floral scrolls with a similar motif on the base, the cover inset with a chased plaque depicting an old man and his colleague giving alms to the poor within a rich interior, possibly by John Mansfield, (maker's mark "I.M" [thrice] & lion passant with sigma outline) London, 3in (7.5cm) long, 3oz.
