A late 19th century Russian silver and niello snuff box, of rounded rectangular form decorated with a chequered design, the cover depicting a troika driving carriage scene in a rural landscape, vacant cartouche to reverse, gilt interior, 84 standard and Moscow marks, assay marks for Viktor Vasilyevich Savinsky (date worn), 11cm x 6cm, weight 4.61oztCondition Report; Overall very good. There are a couple of dents to the cover, but no other denting, splitting or signs of repair. There is scratching, pitting and wear consistent with age, most notably around the cover and the cartouche on the reverse. Gilt interior shows moderate wear and scratching. Hallmarks are heavily worn. Hinged cover is in good order, opening and closing smoothly and sitting flush with the box.
A George III silver snuff box by William Boot, Birmingham 1809, of rectangular form with reeded decoration, hinged cover opening to reveal gilt interior, 6.1cm x 3.9cm, weight 56.9gms Condition Report; Overall condition is good. There are dents to three of the corners on the base, two of the corners around the top, and some further small dents to the edges. No splitting or signs of repair. Moderate scratching and some pitting, Some wear to the decoration, mostly concentrated around the lip of the rim and around the edges and corners.Moderate scratching and wear to the gilt interior. It appears the have some cleaning substance on it, possibly concealing damage to the interior gilt.Hinged cover in good order, opens and closes smoothly and sits flush. Hinge could be described as slightly floppy, more notable when closing. Hallmarks to lid show moderate wear.
