A Nicholas I Russian silver niello snuff box. T. Botkov, Moscow, 1851. Of rectangular form, the base and hinged cover niello decorated with scrolls, leaves and flowers, the sides with trelliswork pattern, assay master Andrei Kovalsky, 84 standard, 3.9 x 6.6cm, approx. weight 2oztCondition Report: Some general wear commensurate with age and use. The niello decoration is worn in places. Hinged lid opens and closes snugly but cover sits very slightly raised at one corner. Hinge appears to be in good condition. Some general scratching and nicking to silver. Some bruising and deeper nicks/chips noted to the corners. Some discolouration and residue of some sort noted to base. Designed with a double scroll handle to tapering body elaborately chased with flowers and scrolls, monogrammed cartouche to body, 8m high (inc. handle), together with: a George III silver snuff box, Birmingham, 1803, John Shaw, of plain, rectangular design, 3 x 4.8cm, two small Swedish pill boxes, 1862, maker's mark PFP, 2.5cm dia.; a Victorian silver vesta case, London, 1893, Sampson Mordan & Co., chased with foliate scrolls and engraved with monogram, and two Swedish silver condiment spoons, 9.8cm long, total weight approx. 6.4ozt (7)
A Georgian snuff box, made form a shell and silver coloured mounts with engraved border and initialled, marked to inside of lid RH. Length 9 cm,The metal sections are all in good order, the hinge and lid work as they should. The shell has been varnished and there are signs of cracking to the left-hand side although this does feel all quite stable. There is also another crack towards the rear which is running from left to right and is approximately 5 cm in length.

Pedro II, Emperor of Brazil", set with 4 garnets, Switzerland, 19th C., signs of use, Charles Magnin's maker's mark (1830-1876), remarked with Cabeça de Velho. Notes: "This snuffbox, by the Swiss maker Charles Magnin (1830-1876), must have been a gift from Emperor D. Pedro II of Brazil to some prominent contemporary figure. This type of offering became particularly popular during the 19th century, when it was given as a token of esteem and as a reminder of family/friendship or in gratitude for services rendered. A snuff box by the same maker and with the same representation of Emperor D.
