Late 18th/Early19th Century Carved Coquilla Nut Snuff Box, the hinged lid covered with hand carved, well detailed, representations of religious artefacts, a monstrance to the centre, flanked by two candlesticks, crosses. tabernacle etc., the base carved with a frill of leaves around a cross-hatched oval and a band of flowers and leaves to the rim; the coquilla, the nut of the Brazilian palm, became a popular medium for snuff boxes because of it's ideal size, in this instance just under 3 inches x 2,it's natural strength and properties conducive to keeping snuff moist
