A German porcelain snuff box, 18th century, possibly FÏŒrstenberg, the moulded cover decorated in purpumalerei with a figure crossing a bridge in a European village landscape, the base with a further figure leaning on a spade with mountains beyond, the shaped sides with small flower sprigs, later metal mount, 8cm across.
A Chantilly silver-mounted circular snuff box, c.1740, the cover painted with a chinoiserie scene of figures beneath a double parasol, one with a bird, another blowing a horn, between other figures carrying baskets of flowers and other objects, the shaped sides and base with further figures carrying various objects between flower sprays and flying insects, 6.7cm across.
A Mennecy porcelain silver-mounted snuff box and cover, c.1740, modelled as a reclining shepherd, leaning his head on his right hand, his crook lying by his side, the oval base moulded with sprays of flowering prunus, picked out in a Kakiemon palette, with further sprays of flowers painted to either side of the flat base, Paris discharge mark for 1738-44, 7.8cm across.

An 18th century diamond-set, carved quartz and gold mounted horse's head snuff box, unmarked, possibly by the widow of the jeweller Louis Buyrette, Berlin circa 1760, the shaped-oval quartz cover with gold hinge mount decorated with a guilloche band on a base carved as the head of a horse with diamond-set eyes and gold bridle with diamond tips to the bit, height 7.5cm, length 6.8cm. Provenance: The Arnold and Barbara Burton Collection, Bonhams, New Bond Street, 18 June 2014, lot 7. With Wartski 1975. Bonhams' footnote reads as follows: The possible attribution to the widow of Louis Buyrette is due the similarity of selection in stone, carving and eye mounts to a series of dudlesack (German bag pipe) boxes, examples of which could be seen these rooms (Bonhams) 19 June 2013, ex-lot 68, and the Collection of Baron de Redι and Baron Guy de Rothschild, Sotheby's Monaco, 25-26 May 1975, one of which is illustrated by Snowman, plate 624. In plate 655, Snowman illustrates another carved hard stone animal head box that has very similar cover mounts.
A 19th century German gold and enamelled snuff box, incuse crossed-S and sunray mark, numbered 3617 to the flange, Hanau circa 1820, rectangular form, the cover with a courting couple by a fountain in a darkened wooded classical landscape within a delicate laurel and berry enamel border, the sides with a similar band flanked by turquoise and white enamel stringing, the base with a spray of flowers including roses, buttercups and a passion flower on a black ground, length 7.1cm, weight 78.7gms.
A 17th century silver squeeze-action spice / snuff box, maker's mark TT crowned, circa 1680-90, oval form, the hinged cover engraved with a cupid, with a building behind, and engraved 'MOVVOIR FAIT VNIR', the sides with chevron decoration, and base with engraved foliate scroll decoration, length 3cm, approx. weight 0.2oz.
A George III silver snuff box, makers mark only "GC", probably Scottish, possibly by George Christie, Edinburgh circa 1790, oval form, engraved decoration, with a hinged side cover, the top inscribed 'Taddy', gilded interior, length 9.5cm, approx. weight 2.2oz. A Birmingham or South Staffordshire enamel gilt-metal mounted snuff box or bonbonniθre, c.1760, modelled as a recumbent lion, resting his chin on his forepaws and wearing a frown beneath his long mane, the base with a partial hinged lid, the larger section decorated with an equestrian hunter chasing a leopard with a spear, the smaller with a leopard standing and facing the viewer, 11cm. Provenance: The Mort and Moira Lesser Collection. A similar hunting scene to that on the lid of this box, probably after Antonio Tempesta, is illustrated by Bernard Watney and R J Charleston, 'Petitions for Patents', ECC Transactions, Vol 6, Pt 2, pl 70 (a) and (b).
