A George III Silver Snuff box, maker Samuel Pemberton, Birmingham 1798 of oval form, with wooden tapping block under, with engraved decoration, 6cm long, 41cm wide, 1.6cm deep.Understood to have belonged to Lt.General Palmer former MP for Mayo, Ireland). He was a Lieutenant of the 11th Hussars and was one of the 600 and one of the last surviving Officers of the famous Charge of the Light Brigade in the Crimean War. He survived the 'Valley of Death' by 56 years.

An early 19th century French pressed burr wood snuff box of compressed circular form, the lid depicting Henry IV, 9.5cms diameter; together with a similar smaller with tortoiseshell liner, the top depicting a classical ruin, 7cms diameter; and a faux tortoiseshell pressed cardboard example, 10cms diameter (3).Condition ReportThe largest snuff box has some chips around the inner lid rim and a crack to the edge of the part of the rim. The smallest snuff box has a crack approximately 2cms long and the lower foot rim has some chips. The faux tortoiseshell box has a few knocks to the foot rim and the lid rim has been restored. The inner rim of the lower section has also been restored.

Auf der Deckelinnenseite galante Szene mit Mezzetin aus der Italienischen Komödie und Mädchen in baumbestandener Landschaft nach dem, um 1717/1720 zu datierendem Gemälde des gitarrespielenden Mezzetin von Jean Antoine Watteau im Metropopolitan Museum of Art in New York. Feine polychrome und sepiafarbene Malerei. Entw. Johann Gottlieb Ehder. Vergoldete Kupfermontierung mit ziselierter Ornamentbordüre und Muscheldekor. Auf der Innenwandung geritztes Monogramm "T.I. (oder 1)". H. 4,5 cm. 8,5 cm x 6,5 cm.Sehr selten anzutreffende Tabatiere in Muschelform, deren reliefierte Oberfläche einer, mit Algen, Seepocken und Moos bewachsenen Auster nachempfunden ist. Im Arbeitsbericht von Johann Gottlieb Ehder (1717 - 1750) vom Juni 1741 wird folgendes erwähnt: "1 Tabatiere in Form einer Seemuschel samt Deckel in Thon bossirt". Unverkennbar ist die stilistische Nähe der Tabatiere zu Stücken aus dem sog. Schwanenservice. Ehder wirkte als Gehilfe Johann Joachim Kaendlers vorübergehend an dem umfangreichen, für Heinrich Graf von Brühl gefertigten Schwanenservice mit, weswegen er mit maritimen Formen vertraut war. Vgl. Kauffahrteiszenen mit reicher Figurenstaffage, Hafenlandschaften mit Segelschiffen und Architektur mit Kaufleuten beim Verhandeln ihrer Ware. Auf dem Deckel und der Deckelinnenseite Darstellung einer festlich gekleideten Rokoko-Gesellschaft an der Hafenpromenade von Venedig mit anlegenden Segelschiffen, teilw. gerahmt von einer Ornamentbordüre mit vier szenischen Ovalmedaillons. Auf der Unterseite korrespondierende Kauffahrteiszene mit Segelboot vor Burgkulisse in Purpur-Camaieu. Feine polychrome Malerei von Johann Georg Heintze. Golddekor. Innenwandvergoldung. Vergoldete Silbermontierung mit Gravurdekor. Meissen. Um 1730. H. 4 cm. 7,5 cm. x 6 cm. Ab ca. 1725 waren sog. "Kauffahrteiszenen" ein beliebtes Motiv auf Meissener Porzellan. Die figurenreichen Hafenszenen gingen zumeist auf holländische Vorbilder und nicht selten auf Radierungen Claude Lorrains zurück. Als Vorlage für die Stadtveduten mit imposanter Palais-Architektur dienten Kupferstichvorlagen und Radierungen von Mechior Küsel (1626 - 1683) nach Johann Wilhelm Baur (1607 - 1674) aus der Serie "Unterschidliche Prospecten" (Augsburg, 1681) in der unter anderem die Ansichten von Neapel, Venedig und Genua wiedergegeben werden.Vgl.
