An early 18th century parcel-gilt silver oval snuff box with stand-away hinge, unmarked, circa 1720, the cover nicely chased with Chinoiserie scene featuring a dignitary followed by a child attendant holding a parasol, within chainwork border, interior of cover with gold on red verre eglomise scene depicting three Classical female figures, one playing a cello, gilt interior to base, 8 cm. long.Very nice condition though base is very whippy
A George II silver snuff box, maker's mark only of Esaye Berthet, London, circa 1730, oblong with flush hinge, cover engraved with initials "C.W" and foliate motifs between two bead bands, gilt interior, 6.8 cm. long, wt. 32 gm. Tiny ding to top left corner of base where there is a tiny silver solder repair, "B" of maker's mark worn away

A rare female Snuff Taker Toby jug c.1830, wearing a green dress with a polka dot scarf tied around her neck, holding a circular snuff box and raising a pinch to her right nostril, minor faults, 23.5cm. Provenance: the Colin Russell Collection. Female snuff-takers are more commonly seen in the Portobello type, such as the example sold at these salerooms on 25th February 2014, lot 438.
A good South Staffordshire enamel snuff box of naval interest c.1780, the oval form painted with a portrait of Admiral Keppel, dressed in elaborate costume and looking to his left, reserved in a raised scrollwork border on a dark pink ground, the sides with flower sprays in raised enamel, a mirror to the interior cover, 5.5cm. Augustus Keppel, 1st Viscount Keppel, served during the Seven Years War, and later as First Lord of the Admiralty during the War of American Independence. Charges of misconduct were brought against him by Vice Admiral Sir Hugh Palliser following the battle of Ushant, but following a court martial, Keppel was honourably acquitted. The portrait on this box is after a medal by T Lyng, struck in 1779 to commemorate his acquittal.
A 19TH CENTURY RUSSIAN SILVER AND NIELLO WORK OBLONG SNUFF BOX, maker's mark of Fyodor Ivanov of Moscow, 84 zolotnik (0.875 standard), in the form of a pouch, engraved with an architectural scene on one side, the other with vacant cartouche, 9.3cm long, 5cm wide, 2cm deep; together with a continental 19th century silver snuff box, of oblong shape with canted corners, decorated with engraved geometric, gilt interior. 9cm long, 4cm wide, 2.5cm high (2)

Victorian silver snuff box, relating to the Liverpool Corporation, maker Francis Clark, of rectangular form, the hinged silver cover engraved with ships crest, the gilt interior with inscription to Thomas Duncan, from Capes Ashlin November 1852, Birmingham 1841, 115g CONDITION REPORT: Stain/verdigris to bottom right corner. The box is very dirty. HInge is good. Generally good condition. Marks inside slightly rubbed though gilt is good.
A rare early 19th century rosewood and bone set snuff box, the bone plaque inscribed "Jas As Bute RM 1831", 4 x 3cm.James Adolphus Bute was a Royal Marine upon HMS Beagle and in 2009 a scrimshaw carved by Bute sold in these rooms. CONDITION REPORT: The top left hand corner has been broken and reglued but apart from this just light surface wear as you would expect commensurate with age and a tiny area of loss near the thumb piece of the sliding cover. Loose sliding mechanism. Postage cost within UK would be £15 + VAT. Postage cost to USA would be in the region of £24 but please confirm after auction if required.
An early 19th Century gentleman's sycamore table Snuff Box of maritime interest, the triangular form top decorated with pen and ink drawings of a sailor with his son, inscribed "Chip Off The Old Block", 10cm x 10cm (max) CONDITION REPORT: Item appears in very good and nice original condition overall, nice colour and patination, highly unusual, very small specks of surface varnish to lid decoration away, (only visible through a glass), otherwise very good.
