A selection of late nineteenth century Russian silver and cloisonne enamel wares, to include two salt spoons, a pair of small beakers or tots, another larger beaker, a small mug and a snuff box. (7) CONDITION REPORT: All with typical light tarnishing to silver, enamel generally very good. The snuff box weighs 52.6g. The two spoons weigh 30g combined. The pair of small tots weigh 57g combined. The larger tot weighs 47.2g. The small mug weighs 48.8g. They are either .84 or .875 grade silver.
A South Staffordshire enamel writing box c.1760-70, of rectangular form, the lid painted with a courting couple beneath Classical ruins with cattle and sheep, the sides with landscape panels reserved on a blue ground, fitted with four compartments to the interior, containing two small glass jars with enamel lids, and modern Halcyon Days sewing accoutrements, together with a French porcelain snuff box painted with a scene of the battle of Rivoli, 15.7cm max. A commemorative treen snuff box,dated 1782, in the form of a shoe with studwork decoration reading 'Royal George sunk 1782', and 'Forget me not' on the sliding cover,9.5cm longOn 29 August 1782, the Royal George was preparing to sail from its anchor in the Solent with Admiral Howe's fleet to relieve Gibraltar. The ship was 'keeled over' to repair a submerged watercock, but water rushed in to gun ports that had not been securely fixed shut. Over 1,200 people, including visitors and crew, were on board; approximately 255 survived.

An early 19th Century French pressed burr maple snuff box, the circular cover marked 'CRANOLOGIE DU DOCTEUR GALL' with three phrenology skulls in relief, divided into sections and numbered, the box underside with geometric patterns, tortoiseshell lining, 82mm (3.25in) diameter Literature: For a box with similar designed cover, see Pinto's book on Treen. Other examples of the box have further writing to the base underside. Other Notes: This box commemorates Franz Josef Gall (German, 1758-1828) - a pioneer in the study of the localisation of mental functions. His work on phrenology helped to establish psychology as a science.
