Early South American ArtefactsA small but important collecitn of varied items 18th Century and later, form the Chaco Indians, /South America, consisting of a Ladies hair Comb, a horn Snuff Box, a snake skin Charm, a flint Axe Head and snakes tail Snuff Box, and a Charm against Evil Spirits, as a collection, inscribed "Lent Captain Denis". (1)
A German porcelain 'jagd' snuff box, probably Meissen: the exterior painted with hunting vignettes, the lid interior with a scene from Commedia dell'Arte depicting Harlequin, Pantalone and Scaramouche, the base gilt, with gilt-metal mounts [possibly re-mounted], 8 cm wide [flat chip to lid interior].
A George III silver double snuff box / inkstand, by John Edington, London 1802, sarcophagus form, with two flush-hinged covers, engraved with an armorial, on four lion paw feet, the interior with an unmarked pull-out inkwell with a hinged handle and pull-off cover, length 12cm, approx. weight 11oz.
A Victorian presentation silver erotic snuff box, by Francis Clarke, Birmingham 1845, rectangular form, the hinged cover with a heavy foliate border and later inscribed 'Presented to George Boyd Esq. by the 20th R.R.V 1863', engine-turned sides, the base later engraved with an erotic scene of a man and woman, length 8cm, approx. weight 4.9oz.
A miscellany of silver and other decorative items, to include; a silver cigarette case, a silver cream jug, a papier mache snuff box, a silver mounted Ruskin type ceramic inkwell, Synyer & Beddoes, Birmingham, 1901, (the ceramic body badly damaged), an ivory handled plated toasting fork, an amber glass double ended scent bottle, etc (Qty) CONDITION REPORT: The ceramic inkwell is badly damaged and in poor condition, there is a large hole and cracks running around the entire body. The inkwell does detach from the base, it is marked '1B' to the underside but with no other markings. Please see additional images. Trevanion & Dean does not ship items containing ivory or tortoiseshell outside the EU. The government have proposed legislation to create a UK law to ban the sale of all ivory which sources suggest will come into effect in June 2019. Please note this means that this lot is legal to sell now but may not be in the future.
