An early 18th century silver-gilt oval snuff box with tortoiseshell panels to cover and base, possibly Italian, circa 1730, the cover applied with foliate motifs centred by a sunburst within bead border, silver gilt interior to cover and base, push-button opening mechanism with steel spring fitted inside front of rim, 6.5 cm. long CONDITION REPORT: Overall good condition but there are 3 rays of the central sunburst with parts absent and on the base the bead border has 2 beads absent.

A collection of 19th century banded agate items. Including a gilt metal mounted small casket, a footed ovoid bowl, small snuff box, desk seal, brooch and pair of buttons. Casket 8.75cm wide. Condition Report. To be used as a guide only. Casket frame slightly misshapen its panels in very good condition. Bowl cracked and with a small rim chip. Other pieces in good order.
George III copper mussel shaped snuff box, 8cm, a brass maritime snuff box dated 1822, with memorial verse to a lost ship, 7.5cm and a horn and mahogany fish shaped snuff box, 12cm. (3) CONDITION REPORT: Fish head - slight ink marks at the top, hinge good, no other obvious damage and it opens well Maritime - lid has slight corroded mark on lower right, hinge is ok, re-inforced, lid is slightly corroded inside base, it has a repair to the back right seam, slight gape to the right hand side edge of the lid, and there is a metal/solder residue on the base Oval box - initialled J R, wood base, hinge ok, closes well, decent condition
Collection of eight Mauchline and other fruitwood snuff boxes, largest 8.5cm. CONDITION REPORT: Chicken box: slightly rubbed, worn lacquer to top, slight damage at left - bruise/crack, base good. Screw: some long bruises to top crack at front right hinge, interior slightly rusty, base good. Hunting scene: slight scratches and wear to top. tartanware scuffed on edges, particularly at corners, base good but scuffed/worn particularly at corners. To a friend: generally good condition. SLight raised line on poem. Scuffs to base, slight surface chip to inside of top rim, worn interior. Castle: top, rough area at opening point, two small areas of varnish loss, some scratches, base has tiny loss at edge (within knot of wood). worn to interior. Wear to base commensurate with age. Armorial: some slight areas of wear to top, two small areas with loss of design, otherwise slight wear but generaly good. Worn interior. Burns Cottage: generally good, some slight weare to lid, wear to interior. Snuf taker: three/four small scratches to lid and a few to sides, generally very good, wear to interior.
Three George III oval copper snuff boxes, one silver mounted, 9.5cm, another with ship engraving and verse, 10.5cm, the last 6.5cm. (3) CONDITION REPORT: Oval with hexagon - Closes well, hinge good, solder/metal discolouration on right hand side, some minor dents and scratches Oval box - Pewter plate on top which is damaged at left. it is dated 1796, initials very rubbed, hinge good, closes well, hinge gapes at left side slightly. There is a gap where the thin rim edge is missing c 8mm, base with incised ship and verse, front of box has hole on the side, dents to the overlap of lid rim on left hand side Silver mounted oval - lid with oval in silver metal is initialled W B with silver at the opening point, hinge good. Colour very good, striking plate under the lid, closes well, dent at front near the footrim, impressed makers mark W J
Collection of six treen snuff boxes and a hunting cigar case, 13cm, (7) CONDITION REPORT: Book: generally bright with good patina, hinge good but 'covering' to hinge interior partly nibbled away. Three/four knots have been filled, two fillings have come out, small (natural?). Horn lining to inside of lid slightly bowed at both ends. Brass plate to top initialled JD. Further small signs of filler (red/brown) on top and bottom of book. Various natural flaws. Chamber pot: good condition apart from flaw mark/loss to one side EWJ to base in ink. Round with cabouchon: generally good condition, lined with tortoiseshell which is backed with gold foil, label reads ?(G) art more, Fine, good condition. Round with coin: generally fairly good, lid inserted with George III shilling 1817, some scratches, generally good patina. Base has fine crack running halfway from rim into body and another on oppostie almost the whole width. Base good, worn inside. Rectangular with tortoiseshell G R for Royal Engineers, incised top slightly bruised, scratched. Side good, crack full length from lid back right side, base slightly matt/worn, very little liner left. Hunting cigar case: overall rather worn, scratched particularly at rounded ridges, most losses of lacquer, nibbles are outwith image and more flaking nibbles to back. FOur compartments to interior, lid still quite tight. 'Knot' box, rectangular: lid, hinges slight horizontal cracks to interior cover, clean inside, lid slightly yawning at right hand side, back wood at right of hinge has horizontal crack around 8mm. Base generally good, bright, clean with one tiny loss to lacquer/patina at front around 3mm x 2mm maximum and slight scrapes at back.
Three copper and brass commemorative portrait snuff boxes and a pressed horn snuff box. (4) CONDITION REPORT: Horn box: generally good condition overall. Base, natural flaw from rim to base on one side, no crack. Interior to base slightly rough. Top, edge rim has natural flaw which may be a crack at one end (not rim end). A few tiny nibbles to bottom edge. Tiny nibbles to ridged design around the profile carving but these appear to be natural. Slightly worn very slight loss of definiition of profile.
Collection of twelve Georgian and later brass snuff boxes, some named, largest 11.5cm. CONDITION REPORT: Shell oval; no obvious repair, hinge good, impressed to base AD*****ON. Rocker rectangular: hinge good, slight scratch to base, initialled J.S., no apparent repairs. Hunt rectangular: inscription slightly worn to lid, ships Gorleston Fair, Dum Fumo Viro, Jack Tar scene to base. Possible strengthening to interior hinge. Book shaped: repair to back of hinge 9spine) dated 1735. Inscribed John Scott, repair or firming up of interior to rim edges. Hole back right at top of spine, dent to spine. Rocker oval; iscrined J Ledger 1898, hinge strengthened, maybe original. Re-soldering from hinge backwards around end of box, slight scratching to base. Large oval: inscribed John Young to lid & Waterman at Faulcon 1748 to base, hinge very weak, pin replaced with wire, quiate a few repairs at back (soldered) and repair at side (intention? hole filled up) (all in middle (waist) section). Small rectangular: hinge good buyt later strengthened (?) rim edge also stengthened. Large rectangular: Different colours of brasses and metals. Inscribed Richard Steib, slight damage to part of brass on lid. ?? original, hinge good, heavy box, some scratches/marks. Rocker rectangle: inscribed Geo Bulls BATH, sailing ship, hinge good, slighrt pinhead dent on left side panel, interior joints strengthened. Barrell: very batteredm to base SAFETY BARREL FOR PATENT VESTA LIGHTS so not a snuffbox, a matchbox. Circular: inscribed to Robert Thomson Devon 1840, hinge appears ok, strengthened to interior of lid, couple of bashes on sides. Oval: inset sliver metal panel to lid inscrined G Schofield, hinge fine but strengthened, inset silver slender panel to base.
Three George III pewter snuff boxes, largest 9.5cm. CONDITION REPORT: Double head box - Rather scratched, some dints, repaired split in the top right corner from hinge, seam along front is slightly splitting at the centre, shuts well, very slight gape at the front right. Top has The Wedding Day, / Three Weeks after comic double headed characters Octagonal - Rather rubbed and scratched., inscribed James Lutten, 1752, John Smith, G. Smith, 1809, hinge sound, slight nick at front interior rim, shuts well, no gape, spring mechanism works, inscribed to base John Smith 1786 Double box - Initialled D and R, hinged good, reinforced, slight bash on interior right rim of 'R' box, noticeable on outside, few scratches, dints, articularly to the protruding edge at cntre, one larger circular mark - 2mm
