MID VICTORIAN SILVER PRESENTATION SNUFF BOX by Edward Smith of Birmingham, having chased foliate decoration, etched 'Presented to John Webster Meyer Esq as a token of esteem by the members of the Loyal Good Intention Lodge of the T.O.O.F.M.H Wincote, March 26th 1847'. 8 x 5cm approx, 3.5 troy ozs approx. (B.P. 24% incl. VAT) CONDITION REPORT: Appearing in good condition overall, the hinge lid is working well. Minor wear as expected especially to the interior which is rather grubby and a little bit of rusting to the hinges. Overall the hallmarks are reasonably clear.
A GEORGE II GOLD SNUFF-BOX, APPARENTLY UNMARKED, CIRCA 1740, cartouche shaped, the hinged cover cast and chased with a scene of figures in a classical interior, engraved inside with the Royal coat-of-arms, in fitted cloth covered case, 7.5 cm. wide, 3.4 troy ounces.The present box can be compared to another unmarked box which was presented to Richard Wellesley, 1st Marquess Wellesley, the brother of the Duke of Wellington (Christie's, South Kensington, July 2013, lot 237).
